Bought this for my 6 year old, to avoid him asking to play the long and tedius monopoly, and he loves it. I've recommended it to a couple of friends with young kids also, and they thought it sounded great.

Ordered this for my 6 year old having got the adult version of Catan. To be honest, this game is cool, but a little too simplistic with not enough options for individualistic game play, it seems like a race to the finish rather than a strategy game. My 6 year old owns us all at the adult version anyway.. So maybe the age rating of 10+ needs a little revision. Having said that, better, and more interesting than most games aimed at the children's market.
Catan Junior provides a simplified format that includes a Robber, trading and strategy. It's a great introduction to the world of Catan.
I am already a fan of the Catan series and this has proven to be a great way to get the young ones into the game, both; 5 and 6 year old (boy and girl) understood the rules and it took just under an hour to play but the time past really quick, great design and simplified version of settlers with a pirate theme – who doesn't like pirates!!! Arrrrrrr!
My four year old loves this game (with a lot of assistance). there isn't any reading involved. you need to buy ships, ‘houses’ or ‘wild cards’ and there are handy little cards with graphics to show what resources are required to buy each of them. the style of this game is very similar to the grown ups version.
Great game to teach strategy to your children, it also teaches the basic concept of trade. My 6 year old and 8 year old love it and play it every weekend.
Play it with my 7 year old but even with my friends in their 20s and we all enjoy it. Quick to teach someone new and doesn't take too long to play
I bought this game for my brother's young family, and they all love it! The players ranged in age from 4 to 8, and they have played it pretty much every day since Christmas. The game is simple enough, but it was very interesting to see the 7 and 8 year olds do some pretty complex trading (with the bank and market) to get want they want, and very funny to see the youngest always wanting to build the Coco cards (kind of like development cards for you Catan veterans). The older kids help out the younger kids, and they all have a ball! I had fun playing it with them too!
Just one problem, my kids are always asking to play Catan.. So no problems really at all.
I bought this for my 5 year old grandson who has bigger brothers who play Settlers of Catan and he loves playing this. It is faster and a little less difficult and soon he will be moving on to play the other version by himself.
