A powerful zoom lens usually makes for a relatively bulky camera, but Canon's Ixus 1000 series is something of an exception. After a fist model that still left room for improvement, Canon is back with the Ixus...
12x zoom in a compact camera body; Big touchscreen; clear interface; Good picture quality up to 800 ISO; especially at telephoto settings; 1080p HD video with zoom and stereo sound
Poor battery life (well under 200 photos; Touchscreen controls lack precision; Lens could give more consistent quality at wide-angle settings; Slow to start up (3 seconds
The HS system built into both this and the IXUS 230HS really pays dividends. Colours are great and the pictures themselves are remarkably clean and free of undesirable noise.
Clean; sharp images; Great image colours; Good video compensation for changing light conditions
Some colour fringing; Touchscreen tricky to use; Wind noise on movies
It's a nice camera made out of metal. Not a small one and therefore it's adequate for bigger hands. But the picture-quality isn't that good. With a clear blue sky you could shoot some good pics. But when you you need to use the flash all you got are pics with gleaming and unnatural colors.
The Canon Ixus 1000 HS was one of our favourite cameras of 2010. Its 10-megapixel sensor, 10x zoom range and 1080p video recording were a great combination of features, and the resulting photos and videos were the best we'd seen from a big-zoom compact camera.
Don't buy any elph series camera, they all have the same problem
Very good apart from the noise Caused by image stabilizer mechanism when making HD movie
I am surprised how cnet missed the noise issue
The Canon ELPH 510 HS (IXUS 1100 HS) is a slim, stylish compact with a lot to offer both in terms of features and image quality. Our only real concerns relate to chromatic aberrations, which can be a problem around high-contrast scene elements, and its touch-screen interface, which isn't as...
The 12-megapixel Canon PowerShot Elph 510 HS ($349.99 direct) delivers an impressive 12x zoom range in a pocketable body, with a touch screen that replaces almost every physical control typically found on a camera .
High-res touch-screen LCD; Sharp lens; Solid build quality; Good HD video quality
Poor high ISO performance; Slow start up
The Canon PowerShot 510 HS is a solid 12MP camera with a very useful 12x zoom. Image quality is very good and the movies are more than satisfactory.
Good quality stills/videos; Nicely implemented touchscreen UI; Compact package; large 12x zoom
Definitely for static subjects; Relatively slow AF response; Sub-par battery life (get a spare
Canon's IXUS range has become synonymous with slim, stylish metal compact cameraa that are easy to use and deliver good quality images. The Canon IXUS 1100 HS attempts to continue the trend set by the IXUS 310 HSIXUS 220 HSIXUS 115 HS and other cameras, while adding a 12x image stabilised zoom lens,...
