Brother HL-4150CDN

It's been three and a half years since I reviewed the Brother HL-4040CN ($400, 3 stars), Brother's first printer using its own color laser engine. My conclusion then was that it was a reasonable choice for a small office or workgroup, but its paper handling was a little limited.

Reasonably fast with suitable paper handling for a small office or workgroup; Reasonably high quality text

Colors are noticeably off in most photos

Brother HL-4150CDN review

It's surprising how cheap colour laser printers have become. The new Brother range starts at only £260, though this particular model is a little more expensive at £445. The Brother HL-4150CDN can be connected through USB or Ethernet, and can serve one to 10 users.

Brother HL-4150CDN

The HL-4150CDN and its sibling printers represent Brother's first move into the workgroup colour laser printer market, where they're up against major names, such as HP, the market leader. A newcomer has to offer some obvious advantages to cut a niche in this crowded sector.

Great inexpensive color printer

The Brother MFC-9970CDW would be a good option if you also need copy and scanning. I will need to purchase a MFC with auto document feeder.

Easy to setup; removed from box; installed drivers and printed a test page in 30 minutes

Does not have the standard computer lock; Most devices have this and I was surprised

Super printer for mid-range volume.

I am very pleased with my new printer. It is my first venture into using a laser printer at home and my first experience with the Brother brand of printers.

More expensive, but better economically in the long-term; And, it's great to get away from the inkjet smear

A little big for home use...but in the end; worth it

Great for PCB transferring, a bit jammy tho

Good printer. I use it for making PCBs. It has a decent amount of settings that I can use to dial in the quality of the PCBs, which turn out really well. I'm pumping out 0805 SMDs with no problem at all. A bit of this has to do with the mac print settings I think.

Bought for use in small law office. The printer requires changing the color and black toner cartridges based on pages printed. The printer will not function unless new cartridges are installed.

Easy To Set Up; Easy To Use

Too much toner used

Very good quality for the money

We are very pleased with this laser printer. It is used in a home office environment and has been a very pleasant shift from our extended use of ink jet printers. As another reviewer said, it is somewhat loud on warm-up, but not much louder than our ink jet units that it replaced.

Great Printer

This printer is is really easy to setup and install. The included instruction is easy to follow and simple. Wired network printing is also easy to setup, this requires a router that you have to buy separately. Duplex printing is also great, very easy to use. This feature saves paper.
