Beyond: Two Souls (PlayStation 3)

French developer Quantic Dream has made a name for itself pushing the boundaries of interactive fiction in titles such as 2005's Fahrenheit, and, more recently, 2010's Heavy Rain. The latter was particularly noteworthy for its high production values.

Interesting premise for the story; Great production values and actor performances

Interactivity is somewhat minimal overall; Some of the dialogue could have been a little less clich

Ghost trick – Beyond: Two Souls review

The press sheet for Beyond: Two Souls uses the phrase "emotional" nearly a half-dozen times. Special care was made to painstakingly capture the likenesses and actions of real life actors Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe.

A technical marvel; Performances range from good to great; Narrative is fine for a video game

…but that's not enough any more; Player input ultimately doesn't matter; Uses cheap emotional tricks

"How is this going to be good."

I really can't trust this game to be good, with the poor writing and awful gameplay that came out of Heavy Rain, I may give it a shot if it becomes free for PS Plus but until then there is no way I am spending my money on this.

Beyond: Two Souls Review

Scene by scene, is compelling enough, principally thanks to a remarkable performance from Ellen Page. But never before have I felt like such a passive participant in a video game, my choices and actions merely icing on a dense, multi-layered cake.

Terrific performance from Page; Beautiful world

Choices feel inconsequential; Unfocused plot; Poor combat mechanics

Beyond: Two Souls review: an interactive experience you won't want to miss

Beyond is also about player choice, and though you physically follow a linear path throughout the game, only deviating with Aiden to search for bonus unlockables, you'll be faced with a variety of decisions, some of which just affect the dialogue at that particular time and others that have a bigger...

Visually it's in a different league to many games on PS3; Stunning facial animation and locations, Great characters, great plot, excellent twists and a fitting conclusion, The action sequences are superb and switching between Jodie and Aiden delivers a unique mechanic

Some interactions are over excessive and gameplay plods along on occasions; The action sequences are so good; we would have liked to have seen more

Review: Beyond: Two Souls (PS3)

Four years after QuanticDream's frantic "Press X For Jason" simulator, the company goes all blockbuster with Beyond: Two Souls. The most notable aspect of which is, of course, the inclusion of Hollywood stars Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe likeness, voice and all.

Yep; That's definitely Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe; Some gripping storytelling; but timeline jumping is not for all; Accessible to non-gamers so get the family into this

Fumbling in confusion when you can't tell what you're supposed to do next

The studio that gave us Heavy Rain has returned with another story-driven, cinematic adventure.

Review: Beyond: Two Souls suffers from a personality crisis

Great lead performance and tech, wasted on a lacklustre story.

Impressive facial animation; Solid performance by Ellen Page

Clumsy; unnatural dialogue; No sense that you're having any impact on the story
