The Acer Spin 3 SP314-51 comes with a powerful quad-core processor, dual-channel-enabled RAM and an SSD. The battery life is also good. However, the fan is uncomfortably loud under load.

Unfortunately, that upgraded model was harder to find online at the time of this writing, leaving the Spin 3 in the same budget convertible segment where we've already chosen to highlight the Spin 1. We don't dislike the Spin 3, but we dislike its spinning platter.

The only issues I do have with it is that you can tell when it's processing something....the fan makes a noise, whatever you're doing at the time of that process lags, you almost have to wait til the process is complete because the cursor/mouse disappears or freezes or lags.

Some say it is plasticky, it is made if plastic but feels sturdy, the speed of the processor is good and can easily manage multiple apps simultaneously. Good design, and easy to use.

Only had it a few days but it is great so far. I am aware that some techie reviewers have made much of its lack of solid state memory and consequent slow loading (no it's not), and other quibbles about gaming (does not come with a game chair), but this laptop/notebook is the business for most of us...

I just got it yesterday and the screen was cracked, I figured I could just get it fixed because it still worked fine but then the entire screen just stopped being responsive and i think the touchscreen is messed up because of it.

I got this laptop for my wife to replace her MBP that recently died. Natively, the laptop is decent though the 1TB 5400rpm HDD is ridiculously slow. We backed up her data from her MBP that had a 500GB SSD in it, formatted the SSD and installed that in the new Acer. It now screams!

The updated Spin 3 SP314-52 is competitive in its class of entry to mid-range 2-in-1 laptops, but despite the fact that it addresses some of the issues of the previous SP314-51 generation, it still remains a quirky product.
