iPhone X 64GB
X marks the spot for iPhone fanatics. The iPhone X is the latest release from Apple, and celebrates the tenth anniversary of the iPhone. Pronounced iPhone 10, the X has been described by Apple supremo Tim Cook as the "biggest leap forward since the original iPhone". That's a big call, even if it is from a man who makes big calls upon the release of every new Apple product. So, what makes the iPhone X such a revolutionary addition to Apple's stable of legendary phones?

Screen and nothing but screen

The X makes a dramatic first impression thanks to its screen. Basically, the entire front panel is taken up by the screen: a 5.8-inch Super Retina display. This OLED display is a first for the iPhone, with a resolution of 2,436 x 1,125 pixels. Apple boasts of stunning colours, true blacks, high brightness and an unparalleled contrast ratio of 1,000,000 to 1. All those numbers add up to make incredibly impressive viewing.

Bye, Bye Touch. Hello Face ID

If the screen makes a real splash at first sight, it's the Face ID that is the biggest talking point of the iPhone X so far. Gone is the Touch ID feature - it's been replaced by a facial recognition feature which Apple says is so secure you can use it with Apple Pay. That sort of bold statement reflects their confidence in the security of their ground-breaking ID feature.

A Photo-Friendly Phone

All sorts of photographic features are embedded in the iPhone X, which features dual 12-megapixel cameras, and plenty to please the "selfie" generation. This includes Portrait Mode selfies, drawing, even more, attention to the foreground and subtly reducing the sharpness of the background. Another portrait-related feature is Portrait Lighting, promising studio-quality lighting effects. And, pleasingly for those of you who like to get up close when taking shots, optical zoom, plus digital zoom at up to 10x for photos and up to 6x for video. All in all, the TrueDepth camera, and its associated sensors, must be special to enable Face ID. The upshot of this is better photos using some of the "most sophisticated technology we've ever developed".

Bionic, fast and smart

The much-heralded A11 Bionic is being described as the most powerful and smartest chip to ever be put in a smartphone. With a neural engine capacity of up to 600 billion operations per second, you can expect big things from the iPhone 8.

A "Rethought" OS

The OS - iOS11 - is said by Apple to be "rethought", which promises a new and improved overall experience. A key selling point is augmented reality, with iOS being the largest platform for AR. Latest augmented reality technology is an exciting prospect when you're thinking of games and apps, and enjoying an even better life-like digital experience with them.

Ongoing Power

Wireless charging makes that side of things easy, and iPhone X promises to make it even easier. As for the amount of battery power you can expect? The answer is a positive one: on average, about two hours more than the expectancy delivered by the iPhone 7 - a decent leap ahead.

The iPhone X is the most radical change to the iPhone formula ever, and despite some concerns, Apple has built a seriously impressive machine. We love its build quality and comfortable design, not to mention its expansive screen and great performance.

Impeccable build quality; Face ID generally works well; Great performance; Good main cameras get even better

The lack of a home button takes some getting used to; Not all apps use the whole screen; Portrait selfies are hit-or-miss; Battery life could be better

Apple iPhone X review

The anniversary iPhone is here. The iPhone X. Or the iPhone 10. The name is as confusing as the product itself is game-changing. Tim Cook's vision finally overwhelmed Steve Jobs ideological remnants. A new dawn for the iPhones has begun, free of the iconic Home key and the notorious screen bezels.

I've owned cellphones for over 20 years the iPhone 10x is the biggest piece of junk I've ever owned.

Prior to the iPhone 10X I had a 5s. I never had any issues with it. Everything worked flawlessly and never once did I have a dropped call or any other issue with the phone. Eventually storage and the battery life became an issue so I, about four months ago I purchased an iPhone 10X with AppleCare.

iPhone X review: the best you can get

iPhone X has it all. Obviously it's not for everybody, but as the most premium of premium phones there's none better.

Desirable design; Face ID is ace; Excellent cameras

So expensive; Side button controls annoy; Notch means some app quirks

Apple iPhone X: Great phone, but far too expensive

The new iPhone X unlocks with Face ID, has the largest display ever seen on an iPhone and dumps the home button - but it's just too pricey

Edge to edge display; Face ID is brilliant; Superb camera and screen

Too expensive

Apple iPhone X

The iPhone X is Apple's 10th anniversary iPhone. Announced at the same time as the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus, but going on sale a little later, the device is Apple's flagship phone and features all of its latest camera technology.

Worth the upgrade!

I bought this phone as an upgrade from an iphone 6 (which was a great phone but dated) and i'm glad i did. IOS runs so much smoother on iphone x, it is definitely a welcome upgrade. Face Id replaces the fingerprint scanner and it's great!

Apple iPhone X

While the original iPhone had no viable competitor (the LG Prada was close, but no cigar), it managed to rewrite the rules of what modern smartphones should be.

Terrible waste of money

I bought this 3 weeks ago and it was exactly what everybody described. Overpriced, for less features and a glitchy iOS (in a nutshell). If you need a iPhone get the 8 or the 8 plus. If you don't a Iphone get a pixel 2 or pixel 2 XL
