In-depth review: Apple's iPhone 6s & 6s Plus with 3D Touch

Last year's iPhone 6 and 6 Plus introduced a larger, slimmer form factor housing higher resolution Retina HD screens and improvements in processors, cameras and wireless. While Apple's latest 6s and 6s Plus models look virtually identical, the company has significantly improved nearly every key...

3D Touch adds a cool new layer of interactivity; navigation and shortcuts; Great battery life even when using LTE 4G; A9 processor blows the pants off of the other SoCs; Improved cameras deliver better photos; Live Photo novelty and crisp 4K video; Price competitive with lessor alternatives

No optical zoom or external lens features; No weather proofing options

Apple iPhone 6s Plus in-depth review - A force touch to be reckoned with...

Everyone expected a lot and then they didn't. They said everything would change and also said nothing would. People were ready to joke about how it being a tock year of the tick tock pattern that Apple follow, we would just see a very very tiny upgrade from the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus from last year.

iOS 9 great; 3D Touch; Brilliant battery life; upscaled camera; Selfie camera is pin sharp; Live Photos great touch

Too big for some; expensive

Apple iPhone 6S Plus review: Is bigger better?

It's September, the kids have gone back to school, Starbucks has started selling Pumpkin Spice Lattes, and Apple has released two new iPhones : the iPhone 6S Plus being the larger 5.5-inch screen device than the standard 4.7-inch 6S .

Big screen size; great battery life; improved camera with optical stabilisation; slick operation from 3D Touch

It's big and heavy which simply won't be suitable for everyone; screen resolution behind the flagship curve

Used as Demo Apple iPhone 6S Plus 16GB Space Gray (6 month warranty + 100% Genuine) review

The iPhone 6S Plus has a few key advantages that give it an edge for serious iPhone users, but its big body still may not fit for a lot of people.

Improved speed, better cameras, always-on Siri, and pressure-sensitive 3D Touch display compared to last year's 6 Plus; And it has slightly better battery life, a bigger higher resolution screen, and optical image stabilization for photos and video that can make a difference.

It's really big; It costs more than the smaller iPhone; Other phablet-sized phones offer longer battery life.

iPhone 6S Plus review

The iPhone 6S Plus is a remarkable phone, and it's still a fantastic phone 12 months on. The 16GB model has finally been banished and the new minimum storage of 32GB should be workable for a lot of people. 3D Touch can sound gimmicky, but it’s absolutely not. It requires effort to force yourself to use it to begin with, but it quickly becomes second nature and app developers have put it to use in apps and games.

Apple iPhone 6s Plus (T-Mobile) Review

The iPhone 6s Plus for T-Mobile ($749; 16GB) beats last year's model in a big way. Thanks to a better radio, the 6s Plus is able to get T-Mobile LTE signal in places where earlier iPhones drop to 3G or even EDGE. The larger 6s Plus is also the iPhone to get for the best video recording quality, as well as a great-looking canvas to write and draw on. Its overall excellent performance makes it an Editors' Choice for larger smartphones on T-Mobile. I wrote a comprehensive review of the AT&T iPhone 6s Plus. Head over there for a broader overview of the phone's new features, including 3D Touch, the faster processor, and the improved cameras. T-Mobile's Model and ServiceAT&T's iPhone 6s Plus, model A1634, includes an LTE frequency band (Band 30) that only AT&T uses. T-Mobile's model (which is the same model you'll also get on Sprint and Verizon), A1688, does not. The phones are otherwise identical, and both models work equally well on T-Mobile's network. Speaking of networks: Apple u...

The iPhone 6s Plus brings better LTE coverage for T-Mobile, making it absolutely worth the upgrade.

Much better LTE reception than iPhone 6 Plus; Excellent optical video stabilization; Big screen is ideal for gaming and video playback

Expensive; Average battery life

The iPhone 6s keeps the same design as the iPhone 6, but packs better cameras, a snappier processor and 3D Touch, a smart new way to get things done in fewer steps. Beyond that, the combination of iOS 9 and some well-built hardware help makes the 6s one of the best iPhones ever made...

3D Touch is a smart; helpful addition; First-rate performance; Improved cameras; Touch ID is faster and more accurate; 3D Touch is a smart; helpful addition; First-rate performance; Touch ID is faster and more accurate; Great camera helped by optical image stabilization; Solid battery life

Lacks optical image stabilization; Live Photos are hit-or-miss; Base model still only has 16GB of storage; Touch ID can be overly sensitive; Live Photos are hit-or-miss; Base model still only has 16GB of storage; Touch ID can be overly sensitive; Can be hard to use with one hand

The Apple iPhone 6s Plus is made from premium materials, creating durability and a refined look. 7000 Series aviation grade aluminium has been used to create a strong body while the glass element has been manufactured using a dual ion-exchange that makes the glass stronger at a molecular level.

Apple iPhone 6s+ Plus (16GB, Space Gray) - Grade (Excellent) review

The Apple iPhone "s" models keep the same form factor as the previous model while bumping up the internals. While the iPhone 6s Plus looks and feels like a 6 Plus, there are significant hardware changes making this the most compelling "s" model yet.

Lightning fast Touch ID, Functional and innovative 3D Touch, Solid camera experience, Excellent battery life, Fast and reliable performance

Top and bottom bezels are large, No fast or wireless charging

iPhone 6s Plus - Sprint

It's clear that Apple is taking its design strategy from companies that are in the business of making processors one year introduces a new design, the next a refinement of that design.
