The iPhone 6S Plus is a remarkable phone, and it's still a fantastic phone 12 months on. The 16GB model has finally been banished and the new minimum storage of 32GB should be workable for a lot of people. 3D Touch can sound gimmicky, but it’s absolutely not. It requires effort to force yourself to use it to begin with, but it quickly becomes second nature and app developers have put it to use in apps and games.

Thanks to a better radio, the 6s Plus is able to get T-Mobile LTE signal in places where earlier iPhones drop to 3G or even EDGE. Like its predecessor the Apple iPhone 6s Plus produces very good exposure and color across all light levels but, especially in bright light, image detail lacks behind the best in class. On the plus side panorama and slow motion video modes are currently the best in in mobile imaging and for heavy users of those modes the 6s Plus is an easy recommendation. Current iPhone 6 Plus users might want to delay an upgrade though as, apart from 4K video and an improved front camera, improvements in the camera department are fairly minor.

Everything that feels obvious now, once didn't. This goes double for smartphones: All the pinch-to-zoom, touch-friendly interactions we now take for granted and marvel at a two-year-old's ability to figure it out, didn't always seem so natural.
