When Apple unveiled the new iPad in the middle of March 2012, many of the features weren't much of a surprise. We were greeted by a high-resolution Retina Display, improved graphics performance, a better camera and faster connectivity.
Amazing screen; Great 3D graphics; Good Battery Life; Rear-facing camera improved drastically; Fast Wi-Fi speeds
No FaceTime HD support; Front-facing camera still below average; Heavier and thicker than the iPad 2; Battery takes a long time to charge
Few gadgets have achieved the meteoric rise to iconic status as quickly as the iPad , and it certainly seems like more than a fair share of pop culture's most coveted gear has originated in Cupertino, California.
Jaw-dropping; knee-shaking; better-than-1080p video quality; Still/Video camera greatly improved; Fast 4G LTE data access (optional; requires monthly service
STILL no Flash video support; Slightly more sluggish power-up/-down than before
Tweet All of the effusive praise and superlative reviews that have met the iPad 2, which has become one of if not the most popular tablets on the market to date, equally apply to the new iPad, along with some added features that see the new iPad only raising the bar.
Incredible Retina display screen; Long battery life; Immense array of apps; It's an iPad
Noticeably warmer than the iPad 2; Can take quite a while to charge
The iPad 3 is, without a doubt, the best consumer tablet currently available. The bump in internal hardware keeps it a hair ahead of the rest, but the new screen and astonishing battery life sets it far apart from any other tablet PC we've reviewed so far.
There's something intimate about using an iPad, and the real-life quality of that retina display enhances it even further. "Well, it's got a new screen" isn't a ringing endorsement of what makes the new iPad great – but actually, that's exactly why you want this tablet.
Incredibly sharp; realistic display super-enhances movies; gaming; web and photos; gorgeous hardware and software design; 200,000 iPad-optimised apps; upgraded camera
Comparatively little on-board storage; especially for a HD-media-oriented device; front-facing camera still only VGA quality
Excellent screen; Snappy performance; Unmatched gaming experience; Simple UI; Great sound quality; Impressive battery life
Overheating issues; No mass storage mode; Lacks standard USB port; Can't share files over Bluetooth; Can't be charged when in use
Apple has done a fine job with the iPad 3rd generation; it is a major upgrade from the iPad 1, and a middle of the road upgrade from the iPad 2. The stability of the IOS is still there, aside from the occasional app crash and Apple bashing article on how IOS is not as functional as Android.

The new Apple iPad may resemble its precursor the iPad2, but with its stunning features the latter does appear out-dated. Noticeable amongst the many upgrades is the retina display, improved UI, amazing multi-touch use, better camera and some solid hardware boost to the quadcore GPU.
Apple's new iPad may not be the most revolutionary change the company has produced, but it's certainly an evolutionary update that will please anyone buying a tablet. New camera for the new iPad on the right, featuring a wider aperture than the camera on the iPad 2 (left).
Astoundingly clear screen; Dual-channel 3G is faster than you realise; Compatible with quite a few of the iPad 2 cases
No LED flash for the rear camera; FaceTime front camera is still VGA
