The new Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has been designed to deliver a flagship phone experience without the premium price tag. To achieve that, it makes a few compromises in size, design and hardware to keep the price down. For all that, we’ll still get a great phone for the price.
For a start, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE sports a 6.5-inch display. Hence, it falls somewhere between the 6.2-inch Galaxy S20 and 6.7-inch Galaxy S20 Plus in terms of size. In addition, it exhibits a very impressive 120 Hz refresh rate.
Camera-wise, we can expect big things. The most noteworthy feature is a true 3x optical zoom, as opposed to hybrid zoom, and the front camera should be 32 MP for very high-resolution selfies. The triple camera array on the back of the Galaxy S20 FE is said to be almost identical to the Galaxy S20. The main and ultrawide sensors are the same 12 MP models, but the telephoto sensor has changed. The original S20’s 64 MP sensor with 3x hybrid zoom has been replaced with a smaller 8 MP sensor with 3x optical zoom and a maximum of 30x hybrid zoom. Look for smaller resolution but better telephoto shots thanks to a true optical zoom slotting into the system instead of a digital zoom. Detailed phone specs of S20 FE can be found on Samsungs NZ’s site.
Processor & battery
Inside the device, there’s a Qualcomm SM8250 Snapdragon 865 processor and Android 10 operating system. The 4,500 mAh battery should be the same as the Galaxy S20 Plus, so you should get all-day endurance.
All in all, there’s a lot to like about the features in the Fan Edition of the Samsung Galaxy S20. and there’s just as much to like about the price. The 5G model retails at $960 inclusive of freight.
