Samsung Galaxy A8 2018 Specs Revealed

Samsung will release a new model in its Galaxy A-series during the CES show in Las Vegas in January. The new Samsung Galaxy A8 2018 phone incorporates many top features found on this year’s Galaxy phones.

Samsung often adds new features to the A-series phones one year after they were unveiled in one of the more premium segments like the Galaxy S-series. This is a clever tactic since it allows price-conscious consumers to access advanced features albeit one year later than other less price sensitive consumers.

Samsung will not release new annual upgrades to the A7, A5 and A3 models. Hence, we won’t, for example, see an A5 2018 phone. The Korean company instead focuses on the Samsung Galaxy A8 2018 model and plans to launch both a standard model and a plus-sized one.

The screen measures 6-inches and boasts a resolution of 2,220 x 1,080 pixels, similar to the S-series.

Samsung’s own Exynos 7885 processor powers the phone. The 6GB RAM memory is higher than Galaxy S8’s 4GB. This begs the question whether the upcoming S9’s memory will exceed 6GB?

The battery has a capacity of 3,500 mAh.

Interestingly, the phone has two front cameras and “only” one rear camera.

Other features

The fingerprint sensor has moved from a location next to the rear camera to a location underneath it as can be seen from the schematic below. Hence, Samsung has listened to the user community’s general frustration of having the fingerprint scanner next to the camera. Furthermore, there’s no Bixy button. This doesn’t mean that Samsung had dropped its new voice assistant, but rather that it will be activated by a swipe move.
