For too long the general perception of gamers has been that of a bunch of couch potatoes with greasy hair and generally slobbish behaviour – I say this in the past tense as things have certainly changed a lot lately.

When Kinect launched last year, it immediately seemed uniquely suited to fitness games, and Ubisoft was one of the first publishers out of the gate with Your Shape: Fitness Evolved .

There's no denying that in our time with Kinect over the last few weeks, we've been experiencing more of a workout than our bodies are used to. Dance Central has had us throwing our arms and legs all over the place, while Kinect Sports has definitely kept us moving, albeit always on the spot.

So you have finally decided it's time to get up off of that couch and do something about all the weight you have gained in the endless quest for more achievement points. Now it's time to decide what you are going to do to shed those pounds.

The library of Kinect games has not strayed too far from the obvious: mini-games, kids games and fitness games. Fitness games seem to be especially commonplace, so picking the right one can be difficult and is somewhat a matter of taste.

Ever since it was first showcased at E3, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved has been high up on my wish list. I envisaged Your Shape potentially being the perfect supplement to my extensive exercise routine, allowing me to combine two of my favourite hobbies.

With the freedom of Kinect and its "You are the controller" mantra, Ubisoft Montreal have taken perfect advantage of this, creating a fitness game that feels like a workout and doesn't feel out of place in your home.

Parents need to know that Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 is more of a collection of fitness programs than an actual game (though there are some mini-games). The Kinect for Xbox 360 cameras and sensors accurately monitor your movements in front of the TV.
