Review: Yoshi's Woolly World

To see the woollen world come to life on your own television is a sight to behold. I think I'm supposed to start a review with some thinly veiled attempt at teasing you with what to expect for the rest of it, and hinting as to whether the game is going to be any good or not.

Beautiful art style; Fantastic gameplay; Incredible music; Depth and a serious challenge

Weak mid and end of level bosses; 2D fatigue; no more

Yoshi's Woolly World Review

Coming after the likes of Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, two of the best platformers on the Wii U, Yoshi's Woolly World already had an uphill struggle to try and stand proudly alongside them. And it's been a bit of a fumble.

Yoshi's Woolly World review

A bad game, then? Not at all. Most of the time it's quite a good one. But Woolly World sails perilously close to a genuinely great game, and with little of its own to add, it can only ever feel diminished by the proximity.

Yoshi's Woolly World Review – Classic Nintendo Gameplay in a Cutesy Package

Yoshi's Woolly World is the third home console platformer starring Nintendo's Yoshi. Beginning with Yoshi's Island for the SNES, continuing with Yoshi's Story for the N64, and now, 17 years later, it comes full circle with Yoshi's Woolly World for the Wii U.

Solid 2D platforming; Looks gorgeoous; Gameplay variety; Collectibles have tangible rewards; Good for all ages

Basic gameplay just not as good as Mario; Easy bosses

Nintendo games don't conform to the norm. Even with the Wii U struggling to capture the world with it's unprecedented games, they're still willing to push the boundaries in game design, visual appeal and unadulterated fun.

Fantastic Level Design | Various difficulty settings | good amiibo integration

Boss fights are very repetitive

Nintendo knows how to make people smile and it's is easily one of their biggest strengths. Yoshi's Woolly World is proof of this. It's insanely charming, surprisingly relaxing and most of the time, a heck of a lot of fun. Its biggest drawback only its inability to truly show us something new.

Yoshi's Woolly World Wii U Review

At the start of 2015, I spent some solid time with Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker . It was a game so likeable it was almost ludicrous. Every single pixel of that game seemed designed solely to stimulate the pleasure centres of one's brain. I defy anyone not to smile whilst playing it.

Yoshi's Woolly World

Yoshi's Woolly World is cute. Everything about the game is designed to make players coo "Aww" as they bounce through the 50ish joyful s...

Super-cute characters and vibrant worlds; Solid platforming action; and entertaining mini-games; Loads to collect..

...but collecting it is a chore; Lacks originality; so gets samey very quickly; Inconsistent checkpoints and challenges
