All eventualities considered it's a matter of refinement rather than revolution for the latest version in Team17's flagship series, with the developer firmly sticking to what it knows best - tinkering and enhancing a well-loved formula to make it the most accessible artillery-based game around.

It has been a while since I last properly played a Worms game. In fact the last one I remember playing for an extended amount of time was Worms Armageddon on the original PlayStation.

This is classic Worms action; The story is entertaining; with Katherine Parkinson putting in a great performance as Tara Pinkle; A lot of customisation options from emblems; outfits and voices; Potential to be a great local and online multiplayer game

It can sometimes be difficult to tell a ledge from a background; Some puzzles can require absolute precision; Enemy AI is very slow at times

That is pretty much the case with Worms Battlegrounds, retaining the tried and tested 2D turn based tactical battle mechanics of the 1995 release. It also seems to cherry pick some elements from many of the recent releases, such as clans from Clan Wars and the classes introduced in Revolution.

Releasing officially today in Europe (3rd June US) on the PS4 and Xbox One (Reviewed) Worms Battlegrounds is the first time the classic Worms franchise has blessed the next-gen consoles.

Admittedly, it's been some time since I've been impressed by a Worms release. The last one I played, Revolution, lacked a bit of focus and seemed to be bogged down by poor execution.

Best Worms game since a long time... and i played alot of them I liked the whole package i've got. Especially the "Couch-Mulitplayer" was very fun to play with my friends!

Not so good for the singleplayer modes, but definitely worth grabbing and playing with 2 or 3 mates. The multiplayer on this has kept us going for hours, quickly becoming my favourite over COD and FIFA

Only down fall is don't know where background finishes and your battlefield begins if fixed would give 5 stars.

I bought this based on playing Worms back in the day. I assumed the game prevailed because it remained as fun now as it was twenty years ago when I played it on PS. But no. It's incomprehensible. Controls are too complex.
