WD Red 2TB ( WD20EFRX ) SATA III NAS Storage Drive Review

This is the –1TB Platter version of the WD30EFRX that is reviewed earlier. To re-quote my 30EFRX Red drive's review:

Plugged in and good to go

I used this to replace a failed WD 2TB Caviar Green drive that failed after about 8-9 year of use. I plugged it right in to my Drobo S and it's worked just fine.

I ordered 8 of these 2T drives to put in a Synology NAS. They arrived in a timely manner. I had them for a week before I was able to assemble the nas and have it build a raid 5 volume. During the volume creation the nas gave several reports of one drive as having bad sectors.

Quiet

1 drive out of 8 was bad

The right tool for the right job.

This is the perfect product for heavy data users that can't afford enterprise grade HDDs, such as the WD RE4. It has a range of features that make it better suited than any other consumer HDD for RAID arrays or ZFS pools, especially for multi-user network environments.

Durable; Easy To Install; Energy Efficient; Fast; Highly Compatible; Optimized; Quiet; Reliable

Great for back up and daily computing!

WD 2TB (WD20EZRZ) This drive is 5400 RPM drive. So don't expect extreme speeds. It's good for basic computing (Not ideal for games, media editing, audio recording etc.). It is always recommended to install Windows 10 on a 7200 RPM HDD.

WD advertizes the Red-series explicitly for the 24x7-operation in small and medium-sized enterprises and at home in small NAS-/RAID-setups. Precisely because the drives have to run jammed together in confined spaces, solid performance and preferably low temperatures are vital.

Highly recommended for small [5 disk] NAS systems

SCAN exhibits the usual high level of Customer Service, delivery process, price competitivness and P&P. However can't comment on the product yet as it's part of a new build not yet completed.

Great, just what I needed

The WD Red's are a great hard drive, they come with a 3 year warranty and are ideally suited to NAS storage devices. I wish I bought more when they came on offer, but 2 will be ok for now :)
