The move into the 4K resolution over recent months means we're seeing the surveillance industry evolve. Higher resolutions, more cameras and 24/7 recordings mean that the demand for storage is on the way up.
Low operating temperature; Low power consumption; Low operating noise; Three-year warranty
Random Access Time high and low all-round performance (both irrelavant for this sector
I chose this over the Seagate Surveillance HDD, because I have a good experience with WD products in general. So far, I have been using this HDD for a few months now and this product works very well in our 8 Channel DVR. Its set to record 24/7, so it can handle being recorded continuously.
As always, I am always safe when I buy WD. Transfered 1.4TB on this drive, works perfectly! Will see later, but I already tested 3-4 drive like this one, all good!
-Fast; -High capacity; -Low price
-None
WD Hard Drive Purple installed in a DVR for home security, HD working very cool and with 8 cameras HD 720p & 1080p give me 7 days of continuos recording, very reliable and quiet. Recommended.
Great disk and easily handles 16 camera streams.
It has turned me into a digital video pack rat. I just have to be ready to start all over if the drive dies. I can mostly accept that. A DVR with 5 tuners can get most any TV series in syndication complete in just a few months. There's always something to watch.
great A/V drive; put one in my genie and it's been slammed ever since; ---> update So, I've been using this for fourteen months and i have no issues; I have never filled it up either
maybe..; no
We have always had VERY good experiences with these "Purple" hard drives and up to this point have never had a bad one or a failure out of box! We tried others with regards to CCTV and wasn't the case. Nothing but good things to say about the Purple Hard Drives... won't use anything else.
I bought this hard drive with a Vantec NST-300SU-BK enclosure ( ) to build an expander for my Shaw Gateway PVR (which only has an eSATA interface), because the old one started freezing and dropping the link regularly and Shaw no longer supports them.
