At the time of writing, the WD Purple 6TB Surveillance Hard Disk can be found at NewEgg for $256.99 , at Overclockers UK for £214.99 , or through Geizhals starting from €251.04 . One should never compromise when it comes to safety and surveillance falls within that category.
Overall great performance; Great price per GB of storage; WD AllFrame technology; Up to 8 drives; Uo to 32 HD cameras
Mechanical drive: higher noise and power consumption than solid state
This drive is supposedly designed for Surveillance systems, to be installed in a Security Camera DVR. I notice when the drive's storage capacity reaches 65%, the DVR system's performance begins to go downhill. Doing simple task like going through the menu and properties of the DVR is sluggish.
3yr warranty - Great price for 2TB
- Performance begins to degrade when drive reaches 65% storage capacity; At 80% used storage capacity, the performance is very slow
No problem with installation... Pretty much just plug, format and play..
WD Purple 2TB: (Review Includes Specification, About, Usage, Performance, Comparison, Speed Test & Result) MORE CAMERAS. MORE CLARITY. MORE SURVEILLANCE For Which The WD 2TB Purple Drive Have Made For The Purpose.
Price was the best I could find and the unit was very securely packaged. This unit worked perfectly and was received quickly. This was my first purchase and all I can say is "Great job B&H, you have another loyal customer."
I am happy with this product
Performed flawlessly from day one. It is nice to have the reliability of a drive designed for continuous re-writes backed by a solid warranty of 3 years.
Have only had it for around a month, so cannot comment on longevity, but from time to time it starts making noises (it is always on). They go away once I touch it but I find it a little odd, considering it was designed for 24/7 usage.
This drive has run flawlessly for 2 years 24/7 recording 10 cameras. Runs nice and cool. It's not meant as a primary drive. It's specifically designed for surveillance and it excels at it.
