WD Book rocks
This is my 2nd WD drive, my first was a WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA, this one is an external USB2.0 drive so I didnt expect it to be as fast. It is not bad actually, just takes a little longer to spin up. Im not sure whats the drive model inside the enclosure since I never opened it.
Pros:
- Excellent speed for external USB 2.0 drive
- Reliable after about a years operation.
Cons:
- It gets warm after a while Seek noise could be quieter

Western Digital My Book Essential 1TB review
External hard disks aren't always the most attractive pieces of kit and they often look ugly sat on a desk. Not so with Western Digital's My Book Essential. As its name suggests, the disk's rounded edges are designed to fit in with the rest of your books on a shelf, and the top, rear and back...

Western Digital My Book (4TB)
The Western Digital My Book (4TB) ($209.99 list) desktop-class external hard drive gives the photo, music, or video collector a place to keep a whole lot of files. It's basic, utilitarian storage that will get the job done, and sometimes that's all you need.
Pros:
- Excellent capacity
- Fanless.
Cons:
- Had trouble with our benchmark tests
- Lacks capacity indicator

Cons:
- not enough shock proofing

Big let down
I bought this product a couple days ago. I tried to back up files on it tonight and found the product to be in read only mode. I tried using the unlocking program with it- and it said it was for different operating system or the drive was locked. DUH! I am returning the product in the morning.

DO NOT BUY!
This is not a standard USB hard drive. It has a virtual CD image that is NOT REMOVABLE. You cannot format it away, it just sits there and takes up about 600MB of your drive space. From what I've read (after purchase unfortunately), you cannot remove this drive from the enclosure and put it in a PC...

WD My Book Essential 2TB XHD
Two days later, after using it with no problem hours earlier, this thing just wouldn't be recognized by Windows. It was in Device Manager, but didn't have a drive letter assigned and it was impossible to assign one, because it refused to allow me to initialize the disk!
Pros:
- It looks pretty cool, and if it had worked out would have been a slick addition to my desktop
- Unfortunately, it didn't work out.
Cons:
- I'll keep it brief: This thing sucks
- It worked perfectly fine for the first 2 days I had it, without any issue whatsoever, so I was pumped to finally have the storage we needed to save our family photos
