The WMG received a free game rental for Red Box. Which was used on renting WWE 2K14 for this review. Wrestling games have not done too well historically in Family Friendly Gaming Nation. The plethora of problems are the most likely reason.

WWE 2K14 is the spiritual successor to WWE ‘13, after 2K Sports acquired the WWE franchise license was from THQ when the publisher filed for bankruptcy. Although there is a long and established line of WWE fighting games, this is the first game in the WWE 2K branch of the series.

2K taking over the WWE franchise led to fans hoping that the company's first completely published game (they reprinted WWE '13 months after its initial release) would be the shot in the arm the series needed.

When 2K Sports took over the WWE license from THQ, I think most users were cautiously optimistic that a breath of fresh air would help take the franchise to the next level.

‏Despite the beautifully produced 30 Years of WrestleMania mode, WWE 2K14 is lacking. It should feel like Hulk Hogan in his pomp, but it's in danger of becoming like Mickey Rourke's The Wrestler; ageing, injured and living off past glories.
