Review: Until Dawn (PlayStation 4)

If you told me that Persona would branch off into a rhythm game years ago I would've snarled and gone back to playing Persona 4. Here we are, 2015 and I'm reviewing Persona 4: Dancing All Night for the PlayStation Vita. And guess what? It works and works really...

The world is creepy; atmospheric; Choices hold weight to them; The characters are interesting; Chilling soundtrack; The death scenes

Dr; Hill, Underused characters left as DLC, Motion controls felt wonky

Until Dawn is a video game that should jump to the "to-play" pile for those gamers who love classic horror and want to see the high-quality that the PlayStation 4 can deliver when it comes to faces and character interactions.

Character interactions; Graphics quality; Focus on choice and consequence

Reliance on Quick Time Events; Some scenes are too long

Until Dawn Review

With a shallow bench of high-quality exclusives for the PS4, Until Dawn is an impressive entry into the horror genre. The pacing of the narrative is spot on, and even if you wander around an area before heading to a main objective, the story never feels like it drags.

Strong storytelling and plot twists; Reputation and character trait system; Totems are useful for survival and hints; Well-executed mise en scène; Failing can be fun

Can't adjust timer setting difficulty for QTEs; Tags

Until Dawn review

Overall, we really enjoyed playing Until Dawn. It'll take around 10-11 hours for a complete playthrough, which to some may be relatively short, but with the sheer amount of possible storylines, it deserves multiple playthroughs as you'll experience something different every time.

Until Dawn Review

Upon a huge debate as to whether video games are viewed as forms of art, I'd like to think a bigger debate could be at hand as to whether video games are the new platform best suited for the horror genre.

Terrific thrills; Interactive entertainment at its best; Replay value

No run button; WHY DID SHE HAVE TO DIE

Teen slasher flicks really aren't my thing. The hackneyed storyline, laughable acting, and generally ham-fisted approach to instilling fear just doesn't do it for me. I might find them to be a silly diversion at best, and only if nothing

Cabin in the woods - Until Dawn review

Horror is a difficult genre to execute. The rise and fall of tension, as diegetic strikes of a bow on strings slowly creeping up your spine and you spot something move just outside of your peripheral vision until suddenly, boom. Nothing. It's all dropped and you breathe a sigh of relief.

Thrilling; engaging story; Brilliant sound design; Knockout performances from protagonists; Narrative gameplay that's fun without impeding story; Graphics are stunning at times

Occasionally spotty framerate; Some might find it short for a full-price title

A must for horror fans

I'm not going to spoil anything here but this game will subvert your expectations and keep you guessing the whole way through the storyline. Took me about 8–10 hours to complete which felt like the perfect length, not artificially extended or too short. Lends itself perfectly to a few replays to see just how varied the story can be. Works beautifully on remote play – one of the best experiences I've had with using the Vita for this feature. Lock the front door tight, tuck yourself into bed with all the lights out, put your earphones in and get ready for a night of no sleep and checking that the front door is really locked.

Very well done

Very good use of the Butterfly Effect (what choice you make within the game, could possibly affect the game later on) I won't spoil the story, but this game has to be played at night in the dark to make the most of the story. Some scenes will surprise you! You have to see it for yourself.
