Until Dawn Review - Teenage Wasteland

Let's face an uncomfortable truth: Slasher films usually work because we, as viewers, don't mind seeing obnoxious teenagers get butchered like livestock. If the teens are sufficiently annoying, viewers usually start rooting for the killer.

Great atmosphere; Interesting narrative; Meaningful story choices; Peter Stormare is pure joy in human form

Not much traditional gameplay; Some characters more interesting than others

Until Dawn (PlayStation 4) Review

Originally planned as a PlayStation Move title on the PlayStation 3, Until Dawn has undergone some major changes between its original conception and ultimate release. It is an interactive story experience that tells a tale that will be familiar to fans of classic horror movies.

Until Dawn review

Created by UK-based Supermassive Games, PS4 exclusive Until Dawn is a choice-and-consequence based horror game that puts you in the middle of your own personal horror movie. Until Dawn: catchup review

The survival horror genre has been making a bit of a comeback recently thanks to games like Alien Isolation, The Evil Within and SOMA. Until Dawn takes a stab (excuse the pun) at the teen slasher genre, with a group of friends having a party in a remote lodge during their winter break.

Until Dawn review

It shouldn't work, but Until Dawn is scary good fun

Plenty of scares for your cash; Real consequences to your choices; Plenty of replay value

Quick time events; 'nuff said; Familiar horror plot

Until Dawn review

Weird, gory and surprisingly moving - Sony's long-delayed slasher tribute is a flawed but memorable step forwards for "interactive movies".

Until Dawn - A Night to Remember

Until Dawn is best described as an interactive film; it's what you'd get if someone made an R-rated movie out of a Goosebumps "choose your own adventure" book. Cut scenes and dialogue make up almost half of the game, and the actual gameplay often comes down to picking one of two options, or...

Genuinely tense; Enjoyable; compelling story; Replayable

Overly reliant on quick time events; Controls a little clunky at times; Much of the tension is gone the second time round

In life, it's the decisions that we make on a daily basis that define who we are. Every choice that we're presented with has, often unseen, repercussions and the seemingly smallest choice could impact yours or someone else's life in a major way.

Excellent Visuals and Sound; Unique storytelling; Meaningful choices; worthy of multiple playthroughs

Many decisions only have an illusion of choice; finicky motion controls; occasional crashes

Until Dawn PS4 Review

Until Dawn puts players in the shoes of the dumbass people in horror movies that make horrible decisions that lead to their inevitable death. You are the horrible decision maker, pondering over a selection of poor choices.

Until Dawn is a video game that should jump to the "to-play" pile for those gamers who love classic horror and want to see the high-quality that the PlayStation 4 can deliver when it comes to faces and character interactions.

Character interactions; Graphics quality; Focus on choice and consequence

Reliance on Quick Time Events; Some scenes are too long
