This standalone adventure succeeds on the strength of its characters and writing.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy review
Many won't mind that and will point, reasonably, to the sheer unflagging quality and effortlessness of this action romp. Others, like me, will take pleasure in finding that a smaller Uncharted doesn't mean a lesser one, and that even in a series known for its excess, less can be more. And Nate?
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Throughout the build up to release, Naughty Dog has been keen to stress that The Lost Legacy is not DLC for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End , and quite rightly too, because this brand new action-adventure very much stands on its own two feet.
If all that goes off without a hitch, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy can be recommended as a solid buy. It'll certainly please Uncharted fans who've been jonesing for a new game since Drake left us and from an industry perch, its success or failure will be interesting to watch.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy review
As a new beginning for the Uncharted series, it’s hardly surprising that The Lost Legacy doesn’t quite scale the transcendent heights of its predecessor. You just don’t yet have the same weight of affection for Chloe and Nadine as you did for Nate and Elena. That stuff takes time to establish, and that's time this new duo deserve given the strength of their latest adventure. Having outgrown their roles as sidekicks and sub villains, they’re all teed up for a shot at a proper numbered sequel. For now, ‘more of the same’ is fine by me when it’s told this well.- Chloe and Nadine are great company
- Set pieces are thrilling
- Gorgeous graphics
- Free-roaming is a drag
- Underlying schtick is the same as ever
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Review
Taking the better aspects of classic and modern Uncharted, The Lost Legacy is a short, explosive chunk of adventure. Chloe and Nadine are elevated far beyond the supporting roles they once played, and both end up as interesting, formidable, and highly likeable characters, among the best in the...

The Heart Of Adventure Is Bigger Than One Hero
Nathan Drake's days of adventuring are over. As we watched him hang up his holster and rope to begin a new chapter in his life, Naughty Dog's scribes doubled down on the message of "it's over.
Lost and found.
Team chemistry abounds in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which is not surprising for a side story to a series famous for its AI-partner-driven gameplay. A decade's worth of adventures and a conclusive epilogue might place franchise mainstay Nathan Drake on permanent retirement, so now is as fitting a...- Gameplay callbacks to the series are both strong and subtle
- Engrossing combat encourages improvisation and ingenuity
- Well-written banter between Chloe and Nadine creates a believable relationship
- Puzzles are rewarding challenges
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Review – Nathan Who?
Can a major video game franchise survive without its main character? For so many years, Uncharted has been Nathan Drake. What does a Drake-less Uncharted look like, and why should we want to play it? I was a latecomer to Uncharted.- You won't miss Nathan Drake
- Action is as intense as ever
- The world is simply beautiful
- Unprecedented freedom to explore
- Puzzles are a little bland
- Some story conflicts resolved too tidily
