The Turtle Beach Earforce X42 offers up Dolby Surround putting you right in the middle of the action, but is it worth an extra $60 more then the comparable X32?

Good audio quality and immunity to interference, but priced high and reliant on disposable batteries. The X42 is aiming to eliminate interference from the mulitude of wireless gadgets we pack our homes with, so it uses dual-band 2.4GHz/5GHz Wi-Fi for audio transmission.

This headset is for my wife, she HAS to have a wireless set due to pets running around the house. This will be the second set of Turle beaches that have tried. The first couldnt over come the wireless network adapter and never connected to the base. THey both were running at 2.4GHz.

Headset lasted two months

I like the sound quality and the mic sensitivity for the headset. Having wireless is very nice though you still have to plug into the controller for chat. I have three issues with the headset which is the reason I didn't give it a 5.

It is a good idea to yes these head sets for shooters as every thing is clear speech and game sound. Can here what is going on around you so it makes it easier to react.
There is know good thing about it as it dose what is made for.

I love this headsets I had the x12 the x32 but this are the best by far! I sound much clearer to my friends. I got this about 6 months ago and they still look and sound brand new! I would recommend this to anyone.

Also, you'll need that pc cord if you don't have an optical out port on your sound card or motherboard. The usb is just used to power the receiver apparently.

Great sound; crystal clear; no distortion! its got about a 30ft range; so I can lay in bed and watch movies finally and not have to worry about waking people up

If you're hooking this up to the PC; you'll need to run to an electronics store and grab a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter; or pay another $20+ for the pc chat cord.

the headset is awesome, easy to set up (once you remember to take the caps off each end of the fibre optic cable!) and from there its plain sailing, 4 different setting for sound makes each player comfortable with whats happening with the headset.

Ordered this model after a lot of online research. Price was great and for only around 30 more than the stereo set this sounded like a deal...it was. Out of the box it was a simple plug into the rear USB slot and connect the included optical cable and....... Done! The surround sound is excellent.
