Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark

While far from the worst Transformers game, Rise of the Dark Spark's interesting ideas are eclipsed by bland action and frustrating design.

XP and challenge-based rewards are a fun way to progress; Escalation mode is still hugely enjoyable; Smashing Decepticons as Grimlock is fun

Flat pacing; Frustratingly uneven difficulty; Very little gameplay variation

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark (PS4) Review

I just recently got my PS4 and played Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark for the first time. To be 100% honest, I haven't played the previous games and didn't know what to expect. From the reviews all over the internet, one would think it was the most horrible game ever made.

PS4 Review: Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark

The potential for a good Transformers game has always been there, and past games have come close to being truly brilliant thanks to High Moon Studios, but this time the reins have been passed onto Edge of Reality who completely mess up whatever potential the "War for Cybertron" saga of games had,...

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark Review

One I feel for fans of the series, and purists may detect that the Michael Bay movies have more than influenced things here. I didn't totally dsilike this but I feel that as it's for the PS4 and the current generation platforms, well I felt it lacked the edge needed for the up market port to this...

Could've been a little improved.

As a Transformers fan, I do have to admit: this game is not that appealing. The graphics are so-so, the story is too confusing, and there are a couple of glitches. While the gameplay is fun, it's basically the same thing in every level: shoot all the enemies.

Game Review: Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark [PC/PS3/PS4/XB360/XB1]

The Autobot's are once again fighting against the Decepticons, to not only save their own existence, but also the whole universe (no pressure then). The Autobots will stop at nothing to prevent an ancient Cybertronian artefact known as the Dark Spark which has unimaginable powers falling into the...

Peter Cullen once again lends his voice as Optimus Prime; Escalation provides some tension that the campaign can't provide; Good variety of weapons

Seems a backward step to Fall of Cybertron; Muggy; brown last gen like visuals; Interest in storyline was quickly lost; Levels soon become repetitive; Needed More Megatron & Grimlock; End boss battle is woeful; Competitive multiplayer has been removed; Clearly an unfinished product

Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark review – prime suspect

A terrible backwards step for Transformers games, and a movie tie-in so cynical it tries to cut corners by ripping off its own predecessors.

Thanks to the earlier games the basic mechanics are sound and the Cybertron sections are occasionally enjoyable; A few fun nods to the fans

The strip-mined reuse of assets is both offensive and ineffectual; Terrible graphics, no original set pieces of any merit, and minimal multiplayer options; Nonsensical storyline, poor checkpointing, and uneven difficulty
