Toshiba Information

Toshiba is a Japanese company that specializes in engineering and electronics. They have their headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. They work in the fields of communications equipment, electronic components, power systems, consumer electronics, and medical equipment, appliances for the home, office equipment, logistics, and more. Most people know the brand for the consumer electronics and appliance portion of the business though, and this is where the real power of their brand lies. The company has a long history.

Toshiba Origins

The company was founded in 1938, and was originally called Tokyo Shibaura Electric K.K. The founding of the company actually came through a merger of Shibaura Seisaku-Sho, a company founded in 1875 and Tokyo Denki, a company founded in 1890. They did not actually change their name to the Toshiba Corporation until 1978.

The company grew quickly after the merger, and one of the big reasons for this was the acquisitions they started making. through the 1940s and the following decades, they bought a variety of companies, and they founded a number of divisions within their company. For example, they created Toshiba Music Industries/Toshiba EMI in 1960, Toshiba Electrical Equipment in 1974, and Toshiba America Information Systems in 1989.

Toshiba has always been an innovator, as well. They were the company behind the first radar system in Japan, built in 1942. They also created the TAC digital computer in 1954 and the MRI system in 1982. The company also made the transistor TV, microwave oven, color video phone - all the way back in 1971 - and much more, including the HD DVD in 2005. Even though the HD DVD lost out in the format war with Blu-ray, it showed that Toshiba was continuing to innovate in the world of electronics.

Over the years, Toshiba has worked with a number of large companies, including Orion Electric. The company is the largest OEM of video electronics for consumers. They set up a deal with them to create products for Toshiba for the market in North America. The demand was high and Toshiba was unable to meet it on their own. They worked together for seven years, and this temporary partnership did make it easier to meet the demands of the market.

How Is Toshiba Set Up Today?

Toshiba has four business groups operating within it today. These are the Digital Products Group, Electronic Devices Group, Home Appliances Group, and the Social Infrastructure Group. Each of these groups is responsible for a certain segment of the business. By separating them into different segments, it becomes easier to oversee the business as a whole.

What Types of Products Do They Offer?

Toshiba offers a wide array of different types of products today. The most popular and famous of these products are their lines of consumer electronics items found online and in retail stores through many parts of the world.

They are one of the largest personal computer vendors in the world, competing with the likes of HP, Dell, Acer, and Lenovo. They make laptop and desktop computers, as well as televisions, DVD players, and Blu-ray players. They also make security systems, electronic point of sale devices, home appliances such as washing machines and refrigerators, lighting, medical equipment, and much more.

One of the newer products coming out from Toshiba is the 4K Ultra HD TVs. These televisions are able to produce clearer and sharper pictures than 1080p televisions. In fact, it is four times the resolution. The televisions from Toshiba are on the cutting edge of 4K technology, and they are proving popular with consumers. Right now, the cost of these televisions is higher than the mass market can afford, but they are slowly starting to gain ground. The 4K options from Toshiba and others will eventually come down in price, as the LCD and LED televisions of the current era have done. These are only some of the most popular products they are offering today. They create a huge range of items.

Toshiba continues to be a popular brand in the United States and around the world. Overall, the company has a good reputation when it comes to electronics. Because they are one of the biggest manufacturers of consumer electronics, it helps that their brand has a relatively high saturation in the market.
