Editor's Note: This review covers the single player campaign of Tomb Raider. I admit I've never been the biggest fan of the Tomb Raider series. I did play the first Tomb Raider when it was released on the Sega Saturn.
It's hard to review Tomb Raider (2013) without providing a little history of why the game came to be, so let's step into the wayback machine before I get into the game itself. When the character Lara Croft first appeared in the original Tomb Raider in 1996, she was possibly the most talked-about...
State of the art graphics and sounds with a solid story
If you're not into adventure games and solving puzzles; it may not tickle your fancy
The gameplay in this reboot is very different from other tomb raider games but is still very fun. The story and gameplay is epic, I found it hard to put down. The muiltplayer can be fun but does have a few problems. Over all a 9/10
Tomb Raider is an appropriately named reboot for one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time. There's no need for a suffix – after four previous Tomb Raider games developed by Crystal Dynamics, it seems that the time has come for a fresh start and a reconstructed origin story for the...
Ask any non-gamer to name some video game characters and behind Mario and Sonic it's likely you'll hear the name Lara Croft. After some wonderfully successful games at the turn of the century, the franchise also spawned two successful Angelina Jolie starring feature films.
Hindsight is a terrifying thing… Video games have made us somewhat disillusioned to the prospect of actual danger. Badasses aren't grown, they just sort of happen. An ability to flex bullets out of the body and coat wounds with pixelated flesh in the blink of an eye is sub-standard stuff on any...
Increadibly well directed adventure; Merges gameplay and spectacle brilliantly; Upgrade system works well with the narrative; Deceptively large open world adds a satisfying amount of hours to the campaign
Slightly slim on additional tombs; Multiplayer is nothing to shout about

Interesting storyline; Genuine sense of danger; Open exploration sections
Broken/ill-fitting QTE's; Repetition of chase sequences
Despite stepping away from the tone and play style of its forbears, Tomb Raider is an entertaining adventure and a great jumping off point for the new direction Crystal Dynamics wants to take.
Tomb Raider is sure to please many people, just as sure as it is to piss many others off. The story is a joke, and one that could potentially permanently damage Lara Croft's reputation in the gaming industry.
