PS4 Review: Titanfall 2

The original Titanfall was a superb game that mixed mechs and FPS to make a truly competitive experience. Sadly, it was only an Xbox One exclusive so those who get the sequel on PS4 will do so having missed out on the first…unless they later plan on re-releasing it for the console.

Titanfall 2 Review

Titanfall was a breath of fresh air for the FPS genre back when it launched in 2014, with its emphasis of boots-on-the-ground mobility and monstrous Titan

Microsoft appeared to have an ace in the hole with exclusive rights to Titanfall for the Xbox One. The game was supposed to be the next step for the shooter genre; it had all of the potential in the world.

It isn't supposed to be like this. Multiplayer-focused shooters are supposed to be one-trick ponies, yet here we have Titanfall 2. As a multiplayer game, it improves on what was already a pretty singular experience.

Titanfall 2

Respawn are back doing what they do best, and that's making first-person shooters, and in Titanfall 2 they've made their finest since Modern Warfare. It's strange to think that, given the omission of a single-player campaign for the first game in the studio's fledgling series, we're almost surprised...

Titanfall 2 PS4 Review

Titanfall was an amazing game that had so much going for it as a multiplayer shooter, but that's all it was. The game sadly lacked a single player campaign, and many of us could see the potential for such a mode in a future game in the series.

Terminal velocity.

Titanfall 2 is a game about momentum. It knows when to rush forward at a breakneck pace. It knows when to give us time to breathe. Both in its single player campaign and its multiplayer modes, Titanfall 2 has a more measured pace than its predecessor, making the build-up to its climactic battles...

Fluid traversal system; Frantic yet thoughtful Titan combat; Intricate new Titan classes; Exhilarating campaign

Poorly written narrative

Titanfall 2 review – robots from heaven

One of the best first person shooters of the generation, with significant improvements in depth and longevity – and even a half decent story mode.

Fantastic gunplay and mech combat, with a near endless array of options, unlocks, and equipment; Improved match design, excellent pacing, and solid, if unremarkable, story campaign

The backstory for the universe is horribly dull and the art design isn't much more interesting; Could do with more maps and modes, but they are apparently coming as free DLC

Titanfall 2: "The campaign's craft and creativity will blindside you"

Intelligent, creative, and never less than thrilling, Titanfall 2 finally realises the series' true potential with verve and polish.

Truly exciting; invigorating; and entirely fresh campaign combat; Campaign design is endlessly clever and inventive; Multiplayer has lost none of its original zest; and gained a lot more

Campaign is shorter than you'd like

Titanfall 2 Review – Titanic Mayhem (PS4)

From a technical standpoint, Titanfall 2 looks and plays wonderfully. The game doesn't appear to skip a beat (or frames) no matter how hectic the onscreen action may get. Everything runs smoothly, and unless your network connection isn't up to snuff, any deaths you may experience in multiplayer are...

Lots of varied gameplay, Titans kick ass while staying balanced, Worthy single-player campaign, Free maps, modes, etc; post-launch

Limited accessory unlocks; Single-player campaign could have been a bit longer
