The Surge Shows Super Sci-fi Gaming

In The Surge, we catch up to a time in the not so distant future where mankind has taken talks of global warming too lightly for too long, bringing about a dark age of long term planetary repercussions.

and The Crystal Maze, a 90s UK TV show recently brought back to life as an experience for anyone to enjoy. The opening sequence sees you as Warren, who is in a wheelchair, on his way to join an organisation called Creo.

The Surge Review

Whilst the Surge draws from *Souls, it isn't bound to the formula, or the design of the game. It tries out new things, builds in a great combat system and delivers pulse-pounding action-RPG adventure right into the heart of the game.

In a 2017 that's been overflowing with excellent games, The Surge may be the single biggest surprise so far.

Graphics and gameplay are not bad, but you end up playing through the same bits of the game (with the same bots you just killed) over and over whenever you upgrade. Makes the game tediuous and repetitive after the first couple of screens. Good concept - poor execution. Would not recommend.

Game Review: The Surge

I had quite high hopes for The Surge, and why wouldn't I With a gameplay system clearly inspired by one of the most iconic series Dark Souls, all enveloped in a cool Sci-Fi casing which is undoubtedly one of my favourite genres of all time, this was something I just had to get my hands on.

Clever Opening Twist; Robust and Responsive Combat; Limb Dismemberment; Intricate Sound Design; Resource Banking System; Takes The Best Part of Dark Souls and Utilises Them Creatively

Environment Does Get Stale After a While; Lacking Tutorials For Certain Mechanics

The Surge review

It's sure to find a decent following among the Souls hardcore as there's a lot here that's familiar for them to enjoy, but really these players have two fights on their hands - that against the enemies of The Surge, and that against the feeling The Surge isn't all it could have been.

The graphics are great Dislikes As mentioned in previous reviews

Likes You are thrown into the action quite quickly Although there is a tutorial style start, it is not too long and is part of the story. The graphics are great Dislikes As mentioned in previous reviews, the camera can be a little annoying in its choice of angles and the changing of them can be a...

Not quite Dark Souls

If you liked Dark Souls, but wished it was more chainsaws and robots, than swords and demons, good news! Gameplay-wise, The Surge nails it, but the world building is shallow and areas can become repetitive and uninteresting. Fortunately, the combat is fun enough to keep you going.

The Surge

Received in mail on release date undamaged. Installed and updated the 279mb update which took very little time. Have played for several hours and while at first I thought the difficulty of the game would be too hard or unbalanced until I acquired much better gear for the rig (exoskeleton), I quickly...
