Gilded space age - The Outer Worlds review

When I previewed The Outer Worlds this summer and found that it wasn't quite clicking, I wondered if it was just because I only had 90 minutes to play when the full game is many times that length.

Funny; well-written dialog; Some interesting characters

Player choices don't have much effect; Toothless; uncompelling story; Frequently defaults to mediocre combat over other roleplaying options

The Outer Worlds (PlayStation 4) Review

The Outer Worlds soars on the strength of its characterisation not only of the main crew but its supporting cast. Every character met is a fleshed out personality with their own hopes and dreams that will keep the quest log full, just to hear the peaks and troughs of life on the fringes of space...

The Outer Worlds Review

The Outer Worlds is the Bethesda RPG you always wanted – it just so happens to be made by an entirely different developer. This sci-fi adventure is one of the best RPG examples of a choose-your-own adventure, allowing you to take the steering wheel for both the storyline and how you tackle each objective.

Allows for multiple playstyles; Morally ambiguous player choices; An expansive upgrade system; Wicked sense of humour;

Multiple loading screens when planet hopping; Main story is lacklustre; Companion cutscenes feel jarring;

Just like fallout

Good game if it wasn't 4 the very long waits between stages, which is a bore Otherwise free roaming on other worlds is good pity only selected weapons available

The Outer Worlds Review | So much more than Fallout in space

It's impossible to discuss The Outer Worlds without mentioning Fallout . It touches every cornerstone of a Fallout game, from the camera zooming in on an NPC's face when you strike up a conversation with them, through to enemies crumpling up in an awkward pile of physics when you kill them with a...

Every action has a meaningful consequence; Planets are gorgeous; Tons of interesting characters to meet; Well-polished with zero performance issues; Combat is fast-paced and fun; Companions make you feel like a real captain of a spaceship

Stupendous Sci-Fi in The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds might be the sleeper hit of the year. It didn't get a lot of hype or pre-promotion compared to a lot of games that came out this year. For me personally, even though I've thoroughly enjoyed almost everything that Obsidian has created, including deep RPGs like Pillars of Eternity:...

The Outer Worlds Review – Good Company

The Outer Worlds finds inspiring success despite some rough edges, much like the team of space-faring adventurers it follows.

The Outer Worlds Review

Billy finds out just what it takes to survive the corporate greed-fueled world of Obsidian's superb new RPG.

+ Fascinating and believable world; + Packed with memorable characters; + Gorgeous design and eye-popping colour use; + Incredible amount of player freedom & choice; + Top notch voice acting; dialogue & writing; + Humour is genuinely funny; + Interesting stat & skill system leads to plenty of...

- Weapon degradation feels annoying, - Some long load times; Up to 30 seconds on PS4 Pro, - Typical Unreal Engine pop-in, - The final nail in the coffin for the Fallout series
