For the longest time, Tekken was the holdout: a fighting game franchise that staunchly refused to fix what wasn't broken. Its graphics got better, and it added more and weirder characters to its roster of fighters, but rarely, if ever, did the series fundamentally change its gameplay.

The Tekken series and I have had a long history together. Although reared on Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat , it wasn't until I played Tekken 2 on the PSX that I finally found my footing in the fighting genre.

Tekken 7 is the ninth entry in the long-running fighting game series that started back in 1994. Though it was only recently released on consoles and PC, it has been available in arcades since 2015. The original Tekken 7 launched in March 2015.

Tekken 7 is a fantastic fighting game when taken on its sheer fundamentals. People who are already well-versed in the genre will find a lot to chew on here: nuanced gameplay mechanics to learn, lots of characters to try out, and lots of neat cosmetic upgrades and historical extras to unlock.
