The Super zoom has always been a popular choice for travel and general photography, although until now there has been a limit on the telephoto end of the scale around 300mm. Now Tamron has pushed the technology beyond that, breaking the 300mm barrier and offering a staggering 18-400mm range.

Announced in late June 2017, Tamron's 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD lens (Model B028) provides a welcome extension to the 18.8x zoom range of the 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD Macro lens we reviewed in July 2014. Like that lens, it's designed for APS-C DSLR cameras.

The Tamron 18-400mm lens is a fun interchangeable lens that will serve you well for many different types of photographs. You'll be amazed at the different types of looks you can achieve through the wide focal range of this lens, which makes this model a great lens to take when traveling.

Of course any demanding fan of photography would spot the flaws of the tested lens. If you prefer good image quality across the frame and a better, more efficient autofocus unit it would be more sensible to divide the 18-400 mm range into two lenses.

I had to wait for this as it was a special order but it was well worth it. I hated having to carry more than one lens and now I don't have to. It takes great close-ups, great distance shots and of course everything in-between.

Purchased the lens a month ago and it is amazing. Perfect fit for what I wanted.

The Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD covers an incredible zoom range, from wide angle to super telephoto, and while it doesn't match lenses with shorter ratios in image quality, it betters them in convenience.
