Th TCL 10 Pro is an attractive mid-price phone with a great screen. It’s a decent buy as long as you moderate your expectations of the camera and battery life

TCL 10 Pro can't quite beat the midtier phone competition

Even before the coronavirus pandemic disrupted the economy, many people shopping for a new phone were looking for options besides the priciest iPhones ($600 at Best Buy), Samsung Galaxy and OnePlus flagships. Recent launches of the new iPhone SE and similarly sized Galaxy A51 ($350 at Amazon) highlight this growing group of midtier devices that have some premium features but are still more affordable.

You can see TCL's promise as an Apple and Samsung alternative in this upper-tier phone. But its price holds it back.

The TCL 10 Pro is halfway between a mid-range smartphone and an affordable one, boasting great features and a high-end design. On closer inspection, however, cracks - like its price/performance balance - start to appear.
