great NAS for entry level user. Many features
The DS115j is Synology's new entry level single bay NAS which is designed to take on the hugely popular WD My Cloud . Like the My Cloud it aims to be compact and quiet for living room friendly operation and provide a personal Cloud for users still sceptical about putting all their data in Dropbox,...
Incredible performance for the price bracket; Slick; intuive setup and user interface; Good value for money; Quiet operation
Single bay NAS lack data redundancy; No USB 3.0 ports; Plain design
The Synology DS115j is a single-bay NAS drive with a list price of just £78. It will take on basic storage tasks, and still perform faster than some more expensive competition. Synology DS115j review.
The DS115j is an affordable NAS from Synology, aimed at home users and small office environments. It's a lot simpler than the larger, pricier units sold by the company, since it only supports a single 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch hard disk and comes with a relatively limited processor and memory.
This device will do up to 6Gb and it works great. At home or not to watch a movie in a wifi zone anywhere or better still download one to watch later when wifi is not available. First time setting it up any type of device like this and was easy after i knew what i wanted to do with it.
This far exceeded my expectations. The hardware is high quality and the DiskStation software is excellent, handling multimedia functions, backups, syncing, cloud syncing, downloads, and much more.
Over the past few years Synology have packed their product catalogue with a wide range of NAS devices. From single bay models up through enterprise solutions they offer something for pretty much every consumer.
Good product, replaced a brand new terrible WD MyCoud home with one of these and the Synology product is far better. WD MyCloud home have instated a ridiculous system where one needs to administer your own NAS through their website, cannot even give it a static IP.
Simple to insert drive and to set up. Lots of apps available, although none essential if just using as a home server or back-up drive
