Game Review: SoulCalibur VI

SoulCalibur makes its long-awaited return on the current gen systems, the last being SoulCalibur V back in 2012 (excluding remasters and mobile ports). So with it being six years in the waiting, does SoulCalibur VI live up to previous instalments

Sublime and fulfilling gameplay

Soulcalibur VI Review – High Caliber Fighting

Fighting game franchises have been making somewhat of a resurgence in the past little while, with games such as Tekken 7, Injustice 2, and more recently Dragon Ball FighterZ coming into the forefront. In addition to these, Street Fighter V continues to be popular and titles such as Super Smash Bros.

Interesting narrative; Libra of Soul mode; Simply fun

Minor slowdowns; Could use more characters

Soulcalibur VI Review – Honed and Sharpened

When you pull up a list of the best games ever (as determined by critics) on MetaCritic or GameRankings, you'll notice that Soulcalibur for the Dreamcast almost always inhabits one of the top 10 spots.

Soul Calibur VI Review

Syed enters the arena to see how strong this fighter's soul still burns

Refined and updated combat, new mechanics add a new dimension to fights; Defensive play no longer punished; Story mode encourages experimentation with fighting styles; Gorgeous visuals and smooth framerate; Stellar soundtrack Fun, over-the-top voice acting

Currently unstable online mode; Crippled character creation; Story mode outright, ignores gameplay at times; Player choices have negligible consequences; Japanese audio is, poorly balanced

"Really really good."

Probably one of the easiest fighting games to get into. A whole lot of meaty single player content to get your hands on. And probably the best character customization in any fighting game period. It also has a TUTORIAL! Very rare in fighting games.

Soul Calibur 6 Review – It’s Got Soul

Fighting games have matured dramatically over the last ten years, and staple series have had to do a lot to catch up. Fighting fans no longer are content with just a decent roster and an arcade mode.

Fluid graphics and constant framerate; Technical combat that rewards strategy over button mashing; Amazing single-player experience with two different story modes; Extensive create-a-character feature

Some graphical issues with clipping in create-a-character; Tags

Soulcalibur 6 Review

Despite some minor issues, the soul of is so strong that they don't do much to bring down what is one of the best entries in the series. The new Reversal Edge and Soul Charge mechanics add new layers of strategy and mind games while the one-two punch of Libra of Soul and Soul Chronicle will provide...

Soul Calibur VI all takes place in the late 16th Century, but… don't worry, you won't get a deep history lesson here, as it's all about the improbable, but hugely enjoyable and furistic-feeling hack ‘n' slash from what is definitely my favourite fighting game franchise of all time.

SC still has it

SC is back to their roots after the fail that was SC5.
