Sony Xperia Tipo pictures and hands-on

A glance of the expert's eye might miss that the Sony Xperia Tipo is an Android Ice Cream Sandwich handset, but it seems that Google's most recently released mobile OS version is everywhere these days - even in a handset preparing to hit the shelves at under £100.

which makes it decent value-for-money proposition at this price point. However, if one is looking for an alternative, one can consider the LG Optimus L3 dual which costs Rs 8,350 and the Samsung Galaxy Y Duos which is available for Rs 8,700.

There are other handsets like Karbonn A7 and Spice Mi-355 with the same specs (800 MHz + Adreno 200 GPU) for a much cheaper price. But for those who believe in the Sony Brand, the Tipo is here, with single or Double SIM options.

Sony Xperia Tipo review

Sony was quite slow off the mark to release smartphones running the Android 4.0 operating system, failing to get the new software on to its first range of Sony Mobile devices launched after its split with Ericsson.

The cheapest Xperia comes with its share of problems. But it definitely has some spunk It's been raining Xperias almost ever since Sony Mobile dropped the Ericsson suffix and went solo earlier this year.

Emerging from the growingly crowded sea of budget Android smartphones is the Sony Xperia tipo dual, quite rightly one of the smallest smartphones we've had. The question, of course, is how well it holds up for something just shy of RM600?

Dual-SIM support; Loud speakers; Long battery life

Poor camera; No simultaneous dual-SIM

Sony Xperia Tipo dual

The 3.2" LCD screen has pixel dimensions of 320x480. The display is reasonably bright, and the sharpness is good too. On the flip side, the panel's viewing angles and sunlight legibility don't quite make the mark. The phone is powered by a modest 800 MHz CPU, and it has 512 MB of RAM.

Great Design; Smooth UI; Dual SIM functionality; Good battery performance

Mediocre camera; Lacklustre video playback

Sony Xperia tipo dual (ST21i2) Review

The entry-level Android space has only recently become rife with excitement as the newer models are actually something worth considering. When Android first started out, the cheaper variants were nothing but horrid and you wouldn't want to go anywhere near a handset that was priced under 10K.
