Sony WH1000XM2

It's fair to say that by now most people who have an interest in wireless headphones know that the top 3 headphones for noise cancelling are Bose, Sony and Sennheiser.

Excellent wireless sound quality and signal; Touch controls; Excellent battery life; Good passive noise cancellation; Goes nice and loud; Pairs fast to your phone

Expensive; Not as comfortable as Sennheiser 598 for example; Potentially fragile (previous model suffered with cracking headband so far so good with this model though)

Excellent audio quality to go with an amazing battery life and has flexible noise cancelling, this headphone is a good choice if you travel a lot.

Long battery life; Comfortable

Occasional connection drops

Sony WH-1000XM2 review: OK Sony, you win

I have a problem. It's an incredibly first-world problem, because it's one where no amount of gear is ever "enough". Literally the week after I ordered my brand new Audio Technica ATH-M40X, I was already scouring the internet for a brand new pair of wireless headphones with active noise cancellation...

Great sound, comfortable, great noise cancelling, aptx hd

I'm using mine with a pixel 2. I was worried that I'd be putting all my money into noise cancelling with poor sound quality but I was quite surprised to hear excellent sound come through these...

The headphones have great sound with punchy but not fake bass and crisp highs; The mids are clear with great separation; Busy, complex music isn't simplified; Noise cancelling doesn't muffle the music; Touch control is intuitive.

Not usb cable charging; 20 hours, not 30 with highest sound quality setting; aptX HD Audio support is limited; Cannot charge and listen at the same time

Sony hit a home-run with its flagship noise cancelling MDR-1000X back in 2016. It even managed to give the Bose QC35 ( Review ) some stiff competition. Both companies unveiled their follow-up offerings last year, and now that we've reviewed the Bose QC35 II, it's time to check out Sony's new...

Great build quality; Convenient touch controls; Great sound quality; Feature-rich companion app; Very good battery life; Effective noise cancellation

Multi-point connection is a compromise; High price

Not as good in real life as in the store.

It is not a bad headset but it is on the top end so you expect a little better. First the fit is large so if you have a slightly smaller head as I do then it fits loose. Not impossible to wear but I suspect as the unit gets a little age, it will not stay on my head.

Jack of all trades.

Supposed to be the latest and greatest noise cancelling headphones. Decent all-around package but the noise cancelling does not match the Bose QC 35 and the sound quality does not match the Sennheiser PXC 550.

Sony WH-1000XM2 review: Sony's top noise-cancelling headphones match Bose for best

The Sony WH-1000XM2 reviewed here was released in August 2017, and remains one of our top picks for wireless noise-canceling headphones. While the Bose QuietComfort 35 II is lighter and more comfortable to wear, the Sony WH-1000XM2 arguably sounds a tad better and offers more features. It also sometimes gets discounted to less than $300. The price for the Beats Studio3 Wireless has dropped (you can get it for less than $225 online), so it's become a more attractive option in this category.

Sony's WH-1000XM2 may not be quite as comfortable as Bose's QuietComfort 35 II, but in some respects it's a superior headphone.

The Sony WH-1000XM2 is an excellent-sounding, comfortable wireless headphone with effective noise canceling that measures up to Bose's for muffling ambient noise; Its battery life has been improved and it has some nifty extra features geared toward frequent travelers.

It should perform a little better as a headset; Battery isn't replaceable.

Sony WH-1000XM2 Wireless Noise-Cancelling Headphones Reviewed

Right now, the wireless headphone market is a win-win-win scenario for the customer looking for a noise cancelling full-sized cans. Between the Sennheiser , PSB , and Sony you really can't go wrong.

Good sound, isolation; but can press on large ears

As expected, the sound quality is excellent. The Bluetooth connection is strong, and I've not suffered any glitches when connected to my TV from 10m away. The associated Head Phones Connect App is a little clinky, but has some preset equaliser settings, and allows some custom ones to be applied to...
