Sony WF-SP800N True Wireless Noise Cancelling Sport Headphones WFSP800NB review

The Sony WF-SP800N are a sweat-resistant pair of true wireless earbuds that have both active noise cancellation and support for Sony's spatial audio format, 360 Reality Audio. Could one pair of earbuds please both workout enthusiasts and audiophiles? Well... yes and no.

Basic noise cancellation; Water-resistant and sweatproof; Support for 360 Reality Audio

Tight in the ear; A little too bass-heavy; Battery life could be better

Sony WF-SP800N True Wireless Noise Cancelling Sport Headphones WFSP800NB review

Sony makes some of the best noise-canceling headphones and earbuds money can buy — the WH-1000XM3 and WF-1000XM3 are widely considered to be the gold standard in each of their respective product categories.

Battery life Nine hours on a charge with ANC; Sound Nice and bassy. Customizable with Sony's companion app; Noise canceling It doesn't rival over-ear headphones, but it does work.

Comfort I find the WF-SP800N get uncomfortable after a couple hours; Looks Subjective, but Sony's earbuds continue to look like props from a made-for-TV sci-fi movie; Size It's to be expected with ANC, but the buds and their case are chunky.

Sony WF-SP800N True Wireless Noise Cancelling Sport Headphones WFSP800NB review

There will likely be plenty of new earbuds in the near future that offer a suite of features comparable to the WF-SP800N, but only the best true wireless earbuds compete with their mix of versatility and performance at present.

Smooth; detailed sound; Up to 13 hours playback time; Virtually ever feature you need

Chunky design; Single recharge in case; Flimsy ear fins

Sony WF-SP800N True Wireless Noise Cancelling Sport Headphones WFSP800NB review

For the sports buff who wants EXTRA BASS & noise-cancelling

: Secure fit for working out; IP55 water-resistant rating; up to 18 hours of battery life (earbuds + charging case with noise-cancellation); lightweight and EXTRA BASS

: 360 Reality Audio only supports certain apps; it is also pricey and Siri is not found in the Headphones Connect app

Sony WF-SP800N True Wireless Noise Cancelling Sport Headphones WFSP800NB review

There’s an enjoyable quality here in terms of sound signature, especially when recognizing what these earbuds are made for. 360 Reality Audio is a must when purchasing any pair of Sony headphones, and I recommend trying it out if you haven’t.

Sony WF-SP800N True Wireless Noise Cancelling Sport Headphones WFSP800NB review

It’s great to see Sony has decided to bring its true wireless offerings to a broader audience. Its XB700 gives you a nice taste of earbuds with some omissions which you may or may not even care for.

Sony WF-SP800N True Wireless Noise Cancelling Sport Headphones WFSP800NB review

So you got the WF-1000XM3s, the XB700s, & now the SP800Ns from Sony. This is their latest product that offers a 3rd option within their earbud line. The 1000XM3 are the top-tier w/ noise canceling & other premium features.

I am a fan of Sony headphones, so I was very excited to check out the WF-SP800N truly wireless earbuds. How did these fare after a few weeks of use?

Sony WF-SP800N True Wireless Noise Cancelling Sport Headphones WFSP800NB review

When I first came across Sony’s sports-focused WF-SP800N headphones, I was a little sceptical. On the one hand, they have most of the features that you’d expect from a premium-priced pair of headphones—but on the other, a price tag of RM849 means that the Sony WF-SP800N (or the Sony SPOON, as I call...
