Review: Sony Cyber-shot RX100 III

The big question is whether the RX100 III's extra features are worth a few hundred more dollars than its predecessors, which are now its main competitors. It really depends on your shooting style and your video needs.

Pound for pound, the best pocket camera available now; Outstanding photo and video quality for its size; The ultimate blend of features for any level of photographer; The only pocket camera with an electronic eye-level viewfinder

Costs as much as a DSLR; Tighter zoom range stops short of ultimate portrait territory; A step back in battery life as compared to previous models; Needs a certain storage card to use its best video mode

Sony RX100 III Review: Pocket Camera Could Kill Your DSLR

You won't be making movies with RX100 III, but it can shoot video that's perfectly fine for online posting. A clip of a piano player in the park shot at 1080p and 60 frames per second showed smooth movement, as you can see in people walking by in the background.

Lovely photos with plenty of detail; high-quality OLED viewfinder; clean low-light photos; solid, all-metal chassis; extremely compact

Sluggish autofocus; occasional autoexposre glitches; jerky HD video at 24fps; pricey

Included memory card not fully compatible

Beware, the included memory card from Newegg is not fully compatible with this camera; i cannot use the xavc s codec for videos unless it is a 64gb card. I bought this from Newegg because of the included memory card, and not cannot fully use the camera unless I buy another one from them.

Great camera with all features that you can think of available

No BOSS (balanced optical steady shot) like on camcorders; Very high price; Requires a 64gb memory card for xavc s codec

Price; Little grip at the front; Some vignetting

A clever little camera that deserves more respect

This camera was bought to be a companion to my existing camera equipment. It is capable of producing competition quality images and I predict that it will probably get more use than my cumbersome DSLR. However, it is seriously let down by the instruction manuals that Sony provide.

A pocket rocket - near DSLR quality, but with idiosyncrasies

I took my time deciding to buy this, despite the great price. I usually shoot Nikon, and have an X100T as a pocket/street camera, but I knew that technology is developing and eventually I'd be able to find a truly pocket-sized camera which could deliver IQ on a par with a modern DSLR.

Good Sized Screen; Great Resolution; Truly pocket-sized

Careful processing is vital; Takes getting used to
