Sony Alpha A6600

Sony a6600 is the successor of the a6500, and has some new improvements. One particularly change is the new battery. Its battery life has more than doubled compared to its predecessor, which is quite a feat.

This camera exhibits many notable changes. For example, it boasts 0.02 sec AF speed instead of 0.05 AF speed on the a6500. It also supports 4K HDR movie recording, something that its predecessor lacks. It gets the lastest bionz X processor with a 1.8x processing speed improvement, a bigger grip for better ergonomics as well. It has no limits on continuous video recording time, while its predecessor has limits of 29 minutes.

Are there any drawbacks to this camera? Well, this camera lacks a headphone jack and its touchscreen doesn't work for menus and navigation. And its memory card slot is UHS-I compatible.

Manufacturer: Sony

Lens configurations: 18-135 Body

Sony a6600 Review

After years of steady development of its full-frame mirrorless system, Sony has set its sights on updates to its more compact and affordable APS-C line. It started things off with the a6400, and followed up with a model below it, the a6100 ($749.99, body only), and one above it, the a6600 ($1,399.99, body only), which is the subject of this review. The three models share the same image sensor and basic feature set, but the a6600 sets itself apart with in-body stabilization, a high-capacity battery, and an overall sturdier build. It's a strong camera, with class-leading autofocus performance, but falls a bit shy of being an Editors' Choice. Sony's Flagship APS-C Sony describes the a6600 as its flagship APS-C model. It has a fittingly high-quality build, packing internals in a magnesium alloy body with seals to protect from dust and splashes. The form factor hasn't changed much versus the earlier a6500, though the new model enjoys a better, deeper handgrip. The a6600 measures 2....

Sony brings its class-leading autofocus tech and big Z battery to its a6600 APS-C camera, but we wish there were improvements in other areas too.

Real-Time Tracking focus system; Big battery; Improved handgrip; Integrated EVF; Stabilized image sensor; Dust and splash protection; 4K recording

Single, slower UHS-I card slot; No focus joystick or front dial; Drops in-camera flash

Sony A6600 hands-on review: Small camera, big deal

APS-C cameras have to shout to be heard over the roar of increasingly popular full-frame cameras, but a pair of APS-C models announced by Sony in August 2019 prove that smaller sensors still have life left. The $750 A6100 is a budget mirrorless camera targeting the beginner or casual photographer, while the flagship A6600 is $1,400 enthusiast’s camera that should even make many professionals happy. These cameras have much in common, including their 24MP sensors, 4K video, 11 frames-per-second continuous shooting, and many trickle-down features from Sony’s more expensive A7/A9 full-frame line. We love full-frame cameras, but they often cost much more, and not everyone needs one. Today’s APS-C cameras take outstanding photos, and it’s nice to see that Sony hasn’t neglected the format — even if the A6600 hasn’t changed much from 2016’s A6500. But with so many similarities between the A6100 and A6600, you might be wondering if the latter is worth the higher price. We think it is. From the ...

Real-Time AF is a breeze; 810-shot battery life; Sensor-shift image stabilization; Bigger grip;

Same sensor as A6500; Low-res EVF compared to peers;

Sony Alpha A6600 Body Digital SLR Camera Black - Brand New review

There’s a lot of great features in this all-round model from Sony. It’s packed with fantastic technology which enables you to capture subjects in a variety of different scenarios. However, the body design lacks imagination and can even be frustrating to use at times.

Fantastic autofocusing, Superior battery life, Good Sony ecosystem boasting lots of lenses and accessories

Body design could be better, Limited touchscreen functionality, Sensor smaller than full-frame

Sony Alpha A6600 Body Digital SLR Camera Black - Brand New review

As Sony's flagship APS-C mirrorless camera, it seems a shame that the camera doesn't offer CINE-4K video (others in this price range do), or 4K at 60fps, and it's also a shame that the USB connection hasn't been updated to USB Type-C.

Great image quality, Fast focus system - with eye detection, In-body image stabilisation, Headphone socket added, Greatly improved battery life, Wide range of E-mount lenses

MicroUSB, not USB Type-C, 16:9 aspect ratio screen - small viewing experience for stills, 3inch screen is also low-resolution, NTSC / PAL switch to change frame rates, Limited touch-screen operation, Complicated, long-winded menus

Sony Alpha A6600 Body Digital SLR Camera Black - Brand New review

The Sony a6600 has an industry-leading autofocus system, is capable of excellent images and video, comes with very useful in-body image stabilization and has the best battery life of any mirrorless camera on the market at this time.

Family and people photographers, most sports and action shooters, general and travel photography.

Those who frequently take control over their camera and those who need a highly responsive camera for the most demanding action shooting.

Sony Alpha A6600 Body Digital SLR Camera Black - Brand New review

At times the Sony A6600 is frustrating, a couple of changes to the control arrangement could improve its handling enormously, but it’s capable of delivering excellent-quality images and video. It has an extensive feature set and decisive, accurate focusing in both stills and video shooting.

Very good image and video quality, Fast, accurate AF system, Excellent battery life (800+ shots)

Poorly positioned video record button, Little use made of the touch control on the tilting rather than vari-angle screen, Single SD card slot

Sony Alpha A6600 Body Digital SLR Camera Black - Brand New review

Though not exactly a flagship, it's definitely one of the best APS-C mirrorless cameras on the market and a very smart investment for all types of photography.

Impressive Image Quality, Great Portability, Class-Leading Autofocus, Class-Leading Battery Life, Great Physical Durability, Solid Value

Ergonomics & Controls Not On Par With A7-series or A9-series, Slow, Single Memory Card Slot, Limited Ulitra-Wide Lens Selection

Sony Alpha A6600 Body Digital SLR Camera Black - Brand New review

This is the first a6000 camera that doesn’t have significant flaws that make it a more difficult camera to shoot video on. With the combination of no record limit, a long battery life, superb dynamic range and both a mic and headphone jack, it’s a great camera for video work.

Sony Alpha A6600 Body Digital SLR Camera Black - Brand New review

The Sony A6400 was probably one of my favourite cameras of 2019. It was excellent at what it did well, and pretty good at everything else. But it lacked in-body image stabilisation (IBIS), it lacked a headphone jack, and its battery life was OK at best.
