After four years, it is only now that Sony has updated its NEX-6 – one of the most popular compact system cameras the market has ever seen – in the form of the Alpha 6000. The new camera also shares some common features with the equally popular Sony NEX-7 and retains the distinctive NEX body shape,...
The Sony Alpha 6000 ($649.99 body only) is one of the fastest-focusing cameras that I've held in my hands, and the quality of the images that its 24-megapixel APS-C sensor captures is outstanding.
Incredibly fast autofocus; 11.1fps burst shooting with tracking focus; Amazing high ISO image quality; Sharp OLED EVF; Tilting rear display; In-body flash and multi-function hot shoe; Wi-Fi with NFC; Downloadable camera apps; 1080p60 video capture
Overly sensitive eye sensor; Slow start up; EVF lags in very dim light; Lacks analog mic input; Some apps must be purchased
Sony Alpha 6000 Review - The Sony Alpha a6000 is the manufacturer's latest CSC, boasting class-leading AF performance and an impressive APS-C sensor
Good high ISO performance; Great specification; AF speed
LCD screen could be better specified; EVF a touch behind competition
Pretty much all mirrorless cameras - Fujifilm X and Samsung NX, to name a couple - with APS-C size sensors can take a damn fine picture these days. The Sony a6000 does its best to stand out with a pinch of style and updated tech, but it's still largely the same as the camera it's replacing, 2012's...

Sony’s re-branding of the APS-C NEX mirrorless models as Alpha has presented an opportunity to realigned the range. Although the new A6000 announced in February this year features a 24- Mpix CMOS like the technically still current NEX-7 it is seen as a replacement to the newer NEX-6 .
It's been a few months since Sony took the decision to officially drop the NEX moniker from its E-mount compact system cameras, renaming all of its interchangeable lens cameras with the Alpha brand, regardless of whether it is an A mount or an E mount (those formally known as NEX) camera.
The Sony A6000 interchangeable lens camera claims world's fastest auto focus
Quick and responsive; Tilting LCD; High-resolution APS-C sensor
Blocky; minimalist design; No touchscreen; Battery not as good as A5000
