Sonos Move Review: Cutting cords not corners

Expectations were high for Sonos Move, the multi-room audio company's first portable, Bluetooth-compatible speaker. Dangerously high, you could argue: Sonos says its users have been asking for a completely wire-free speaker pretty much from day one, and that's plenty of time for an outlandish...
Pros:
  • Sonos style subtly integrates ruggedization
  • Sounds great
  • inside and out
  • Automatic Trueplay is simple and effective
  • Long battery life and fast recharging
  • Replaceable battery is reassuring
Cons:
  • Expensive for a Bluetooth speaker
  • Bluetooth experience lacks some of the Sonos niceties

Sonos Move (2019) review

Even if the portability of the Move ends up a little undercut by the weight involved, the Sonos Move still up to most of its potential. If you’re after a Sonos that’ll work over Bluetooth or one that you can pick up and carry around your house, the Move is exactly that.
Pros:
  • Portability
  • Seamless to integrate
  • Great audio quality
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Uneven design
  • Charger cradle feels cheap

Sonos Move review: Sonos just burgled Google Home and drowned out Echo

Sonos Move is an entirely logical product for Sonos to bring out, in some ways . It extends Sonos' reach into your garden and beyond, albeit via Bluetooth rather than by expanding its multi-room network onto 4G.
Pros:
  • Excellent sound
  • Connects over both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • Impressively ruggedised and water resistant
  • App supports numerous streaming services
  • And there's Apple AirPlay
  • Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant
  • too
Cons:
  • Unusually hefty for a 'portable' speaker
  • Also unusually pricey
  • though you get your money's worth
  • Audio takes a little bit of a hit when on Bluetooth

Sonos Move review: house shaker, not road warrior

For the past week or so, I've been listening to music on a wireless speaker in my living room, in my kitchen, in my home office, on my patio, and even at the park. While some people might do this with a variety of different speakers, I've been using the same speaker in all of those places: Sonos'...
Pros:
  • Loud
  • full sound
  • Reliable wireless connectivity
  • Seamlessly integrates with other Sonos products
  • Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant on board
  • Sounds great indoors or out
Cons:
  • Pricey
  • Some significant setup bugs and headaches
  • Too big and heavy to travel with
  • 10-hour battery life is shorter than other Bluetooth speakers

Sonos Move review: Great outdoors

Sonos has been the leading brand in wireless whole-home audio since the company effectively created the category almost 20 years ago. But in all that time, it has steadfastly refused to support Bluetooth wireless connections on its devices. Only Sonos knows all the reasons why the company held back, but that chapter is now closed. The company’s first truly portable (and Bluetooth-capable) $399 Move is here. The only remaining question is, given the considerable investment it requires, is the Move worth it? Sonos products have a reputation for superb build quality, and whether we’re talking about a Sonos One SL (formerly the Play:1) or a Sonos Sub, each speaker feels solid and substantial. The Sonos Move takes this even further. It weighs 6.6 pounds, making it over two pounds heavier than a Sonos One, and nearly twice the weight of the Ultimate Ears Megablast, a portable speaker that has many of the same features. Still, thanks to its well-designed integrated carry-handle, you can carry...
Pros:
  • Superb build quality
  • Integration with Sonos systems
  • Sounds especially good outdoors
  • User-replaceable battery
Cons:
  • Sonos app doesn’t work over Bluetooth
  • Big size, big price

Sonos Move - Black MOVE1AU1BLK review

Sonos Move Review

The Sonos Move is a powerful multi-room smart speaker with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control, as well as a durable, battery-powered design you can use anywhere. Sonos is best known for popularizing multi-room audio, and until now, none of those "rooms" have included your back patio. The Sonos Move shifts this paradigm. At $399, the Move is far from cheap, but it delivers powerful audio in a battery-powered, outdoor-friendly design. It's quite large for a portable speaker, but its size allows it to deliver some serious bass depth. Its sculpted, bass-forward sound signature may not appeal to audio purists, but there's no denying the Move's power, quality, and thoughtful design. It's a step in a new direction for Sonos, and we think it's the right one.Design Measuring 9.5 by 6.3 by 5.0 inches (HWD), the slightly rounded Move has an eggshell-like finish in black or white. Its IP56 rating means it can handle limited dust exposure, as well as water projected from any direction, though it shouldn't be submerged. In other words, poolside splashes or rain won't harm the speaker, and it can get a little dirty, too. It's also built to withstand inte...
Pros:
  • Powerful audio with rich bass depth and bright highs
  • Portable, dust- and water-resistant build
  • Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Heavy
  • Sculpted, mono sound signature not for everyone

Sonos Move - Black MOVE1AU1BLK review

We took a Sonos speaker on its first trip outside the house and off of Wi-Fi.
Pros:
  • Outstanding sound with strong base and a sound signature that auto-tunes itself depending on where you place it. Splash resistant (IP56). Works with any existing Sonos setup. Microphones for barking at Google or Alexa voice assistants. Drop resistant. Bluetooth compatible.
Cons:
  • Cannot use the Sonos app while in Bluetooth mode. No advanced Bluetooth features (can only connect to one device at a time via Bluetooth). Not submersible in water, and touch controls tend to go haywire when wet. Expensive.

Sonos Move 2 Review

The Move 2 improves upon with predecessor with stereo audio and longer battery life, making it the best Sonos speaker for listening to music outside. We gave the original $399 Sonos Move high marks for pairing the company's Wi-Fi-based streaming experience with an outdoor-friendly, Bluetooth-capable design. The $449 Move 2 costs more and drops Google Assistant support, but dual tweeters give it the advantage of stereo sound, and it lasts more than twice as long as the original on battery. Beyond this, this smart speaker benefits from hands-free Alexa and Sonos Voice Control, as well as the intuitive Sonos app, which smoothly handles everything from multiroom setup to music streaming. Thanks to its robust stereo audio and longer battery life, the Move 2 is an easy recommendation for Sonos users who want to listen both indoors and out. For inside-only listeners, however, the Sonos Era 300 offers more power and Dolby Atmos support for the same price, earning it our Editors' Choice award.A Familiar Design With Upgraded Tweeters Available in matte black, olive (green), or white, the 6.6-pound Move 2 measures 9.5 by 6.3 by 5.0 inches...
Pros:
  • Powerful audio output with rich bass and bright highs
  • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi streaming
  • Excellent Sonos app
  • Hands-free Alexa and Sonos Voice Control
  • Improved battery life
Cons:
  • Not fully waterproof
  • Outdated Bluetooth specs
  • Expensive
