Sonic was one of my childhood pals. We spent a lot of time together on the SEGA Genesis-we both did a lot of growing up. And while I got my act together, the thrill-seeking hedgehog got too caught up in the "fast" life and began to spin out of control.

This game is pretty much the opposite of what the main review claims it is. The game is slow, gimmicky, and childish. None of the characters are likable at all. Sonic is a one-dimensional jerk, Tails is a one-dimensional primadonna, and the Deadly Six run the gamut from boring to outright offensive.

When the kid down the street from me got a Sega Genesis and Sonic the Hedgehog for his birthday, my first question, after watching him play for a bit, was, "Its so fast. How are you supposed to control him?

It's telling that the highlights of Lost World are the moments where Sonic Team allows the hedgehog to do what he does best: high-velocity platforming that tests your ability to follow high-speed action and to reflexively respond to danger.

I love platformers; they're probably my very favourite sort of games. I grew up playing Mario, Adventure Island and just about every other game that involved jumping in and on things. I, rather naturally, have an old love for Sonic the Hedgehog.

In the eternal battle of Mario versus Sonic, consider Sonic Lost World a notch in the Italian plumber's win column. Coming in to 2013, Sonic the Hedgehog was on the rise. With the successful and enjoyable releases of Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations , it had become okay to have faith in the blue blur after years of catastrophic failure.
