Review: "Sonic Generations" Trades Gimmicks For Nostalgia

Sonic Generations is the game that Sonic fans have long been waiting for. An amalgamation of almost all Sonic games across the blue blur's 20-year history that features both classic platforming and modern speed, this game has something for everyone.

Let's just pray on bended knees that it doesn't take another set of poor incarnations before we see Sonic appear again with such splendour and delight. The foundations have certainly been laid for another epic return. Long live Sonic the Hedgehog!

Sonic Generations

Fans might have preferred compilation of Sonic's 16-bit greatest hits, but a career-spanning retrospective is what ended up on the track list. And you know what? Against all odds, Sonic Generations feels adequate.

Xbox 360 Review: Sonic Generations

Sonic Generations is a great dedication to 20 years of Sonic and paves the way forward for where the series needs to head, let's just hope Sega doesn't come up with any more crazy gimmicks like Werehogs, giving Sonic a sword or giving Shadow an Uzi…

Sonic Generations

For a while now, Sonic's real race has been to get back to his '90s glory days. His 3D adventures were critically scorned and last year's Sonic 4 managed just one 2D episode, but with Generations, Sega seems to have found a good formula for the future.

+ The 2D Sonic stages are the best since the Genesis era and the 3D levels aren't half-bad; + Very robust and engaging soundtrack

? Has any silent videogame hero become more endearing after starting to talk

Best Sonic game since Sonic 2; Frequently spectacular and thrilling; A speed-runner's dream

Low-speed 3D control is still bad; Filler mission quality varies massively; Classic Sonic won't be returning (sniff

Lush graphics; Amazing Speed; It's Sonic at long last

Frustrating drops; Framerate can be choppy

Sonic Generations

While the move to 3D was the best thing that ever happened to Mario, developer Sonic Team has consistently failed to reimagine the lickety-split action of his fiercest rival in three dimensions. But with Sonic Generations, the blue blur has finally found his stride.

Sonic Generations – Review (PS3, 360)

There's a saying that goes "Helen of Troy had a face that launched a thousand ships" and in gaming terms an equivalent would be that "Sonic's character has sold a few million consoles" in a time when Sega were not only a software powerhouse but a hardware one too, dominating the landscape with the...
