Let's face it. Sonic hasn't had the best luck in this generation of consoles, but frankly some of the very earliest Sonic games of this generation were probably some of the worst games to come out for the character. However that doesn't mean that Sega hasn't taken strides in making good Sonic games.

On 3DS, Sonic Generations is a more half-hearted anniversary affair which somehow misses the point of the whole exercise.

I love this game. So much to do, so nostalgic, and surprisingly addictive. Just give it a go. Great with mates around! Even the girls like it!

Switching between Sonics can be confusing

I actually bought it as a gift for my daughter. She has played the game several times and loves it. My grandchildren also love the game, even though it came out originally way before their time.

Poor old Sonic. The jet-heeled blue hedgehog suffered an apparently permanent loss of his mojo overnight, going from one of the games industry's most iconic characters to an anachronism.

Sonic fans say this is the best Sonic game in years. I'd agree if Sonic Generations doesn't feel as rough and unpolished as it is.

Sonic Generations is meant to commemorate Sonic's 20th anniversary so it's got a ton of references to most retail releases including obscure stuff like Knuckles Chaotix; Also has a ton of music and artwork from previous Sonics.

Game is short and padded with a lot of annoying and repetitive challenges; controls are flaky; 2d Sonic has turning issues; On a 2d plane; Yes; It takes him a few tenths of a second to turn around.

Generally a good fun game. My 8 year old son loves playing this game. This was one of first games he has played on Xbox but generally found controls for game easy and level of difficulty suitable for his ability.
