For the uninitiated, the Sniper Elite series takes place during World War II and is a third-person shooter sporting a lengthy campaign that's reliant on meeting multiple objectives (some optional) across each of its huge sandbox levels to progress.

I really enjoyed SE3 but, coming late to the franchise, I had bought the game of the year edition so didn't realise that so many basic guns get locked behind dlc in the standard game!!! The game is fine, SE4 is more of the same but I can't support hiding basic content from players in paid for games.

You won’t get too many surprises, as the story really just isn’t all that engaging, but it doesn’t matter. By looking good, doubling down on the macabre yet moreish sniper gameplay, and expanding each mission area to really let you play the way you want, Sniper Elite 4 is the best entry in the series to date. It delivers just about everything fans of the series could want, and even without a gripping story, expands the formula so that new players can get in on the action too.
