Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition Review

Following the success of the Tomb Raider remaster in early 2014, Square Enix announced that Sleeping Dogs would also be receiving the next-gen treatment in the form of the Definitive Edition.

Incredibly dense gameplay; Combat is well implemented; Hong Kong looks and sounds amazing

Nightmare in North Point is particularly poor; Inconsistent framerate; Still plagued with bugs

Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition review

United Front Games helped develop this year’s Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, and it’s now turned its attention to its own game: 2012’s Sleeping Dogs. Should it have bothered with the upgrade this time around? Matt takes another look.

An absorbing story; Great production values; Solid frame rate; Much-improved fighting and driving mechanics

Some contextual actions are slightly finicky; It's expensive on console if you've already played through

If ‘skop', ‘skiet' and ‘donner' Chinese movies appeals to you then you've come to the right place. Sleeping Dogs encompasses everything that's right about the action genre of old, but does this Definitive Edition improve on an already stellar game?

The original game included remains super fun | Action sequences are incredible | They got the 'Engrish' right

The DLC is lame | Social Hub feels like an afterthought | Graphics are better; but not amazing

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition review

Sleeping Dogs was my sleeper hit of 2012, and well worth playing on PS4 and Xbox One if you missed it the first time -- but at full price, not worth playing again as there's nothing amazing about this remastered port.

+ Includes all DLC; + An engaging and thrilling storyline; + Satisfying shooter & brawler gameplay

- Not really worth playing again; - Visual upgrades not anywhere near as good as Tomb Raider; - Was it necessary? - It's way cheaper on PS3/360

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

For those that haven't played 2012's 'Sleeping Dogs', it's quite the underrated gem. I tackled it for the first time on the PC during 2013 after picking it up during a Steam sale, though at that time the last thing I thought was a future re-release.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

You can call it a trend, or a lack of ideas. You can call it the need to fix the fact that new-gen systems - consoles that landed almost one year ago - have sizeable gaps that need filling, with malnourished players wanting for new experiences, appetites that require satisfaction.

Originally intended as a sequel to Activision's short-lived True Crime franchise, Sleeping Dogs had one of those tortured development cycles that usually results in utter disappointment.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

Re-release this! *Roundhouse kicks for everyone* Video games are one of the few mediums that get away with lightly touching up a few elements and rereleasing a product just months after the original.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition Review

Back in 2012, I called one of the biggest -- and most pleasant -- surprises of the year. Two years later, the surprise has obviously dissipated, but that doesn't take away from what United Front Games achieved here.

Same great game; Wonderful story; Fun driving; Good gunplay; melee

Wonky camera

Awesome purchase

Overall the game play is awesome, but the packing is worst. they just sent in the normal paper envelope, not even bubble wrapper. but the game is worth your penny.
