Now for something completely different

A subjective review of the Sigma DP2M should really result in only 1 star. It is a fixed lens camera (30/2.8), decidedly eccentric styling, is useless in anything above iso640 and it costs more than an entry level DSLR with kit lens. But and it is a big BUT in bright sunlight at iso 100, hand held or...

Good Colours; Great Resolution; Simple User Interface

Bad Battery Life; Not Good In Low Light; Slow Write Speed

One Sharp Tool

A lot has been written regarding the Sigma DP2 Merrill camera. And most of it has focused on its slow auto focusing, fast battery burn rate, and high noise level at anything above ISO 800.

Great Pictures, Some issues.

I have been using mine for over a week now, and several points must be made. 1. Colour: It has the finest colour I have seen in any compact camera, even JPG seems rich, but you must use RAW/X3F to fully exploit this. 2.

Medium Format Image Quality in a Compact

This camera produces absolutely amazing image quality, but requires a few compromises. The sensor and lens combo are fantastic, the lens is one of the sharpest I have ever used. With good light, image quality is fantastic, but above ISO 800 is only really useable as B&W.

Great color; Great Resolution; Great Sharpness; Small / Compact

No Viewfinder; Poor in Low Light; Short Battery Life; Slow Writing To Card

A revolutionary camera - for landscapes & travel

I have a Sigma DP2 Merrill in August 2012, and have taken well over a thousand photos with it so far. This is truly an amazing camera, and as much as I loved my Canon G11 (I'm an enthusiast, by the way, not a professional photographer), the G11 has sadly been relegated to a mere backup camera.

Here are my top 10 problems and annoyances, in order of priority; 1; No image stabilization; I hate using flash & don't own one for this camera, and I really don't like bumping up the ISO when there's not enough light; A tripod is a must in many situations.

Sigma DP2 review

The successor to Sigma's DP1 arrives with big expectations and striking design. But how does it fair on the WDC testing bench?

Excellent result can be achieved with a fair amount of effort

Stuttered focusing system; problems in use.

Sigma DP2

Although many photo enthusiasts have been looking forward to Sigma's DP2 since the camera was first revealed at Photokina 2008, we've had to wait almost eight months to see a review unit.

You're looking for a well-built pocketable camera with P; A; S and M shooting modes; and can afford the relatively high price tag; You're prepared to shoot and process raw files; You don't mind working with a frustratingly non-intuitive user interface and menus that are difficult to read outdoors,

A jewel for experts only.

This truly is a unique camera. Not a user friendly one but capable of delivering STUNNING, almost tridimensional, detailed images. Let's say it a "conoisseurs" piece of equipment. Strictly use it in RAW mode, manual focus and external viewfinder.

Film has met its match!

I've been shooting with 35mm, 120, and Canon full-frame digital SLR's for a long time.

Image quality; image quality; image quality

Slow focus; slow lens (f1.8 would have been perfect); battery life; low-resolution LCD

Possibly the strangest digital camera

Ok first of all, this is not your typical point-and-shoot digital camera. This camera can produce images that can put full-frame DSLR to a shame, but you should know what you're doing and work around the limitations.

Great Picture Quality

Poor Operation in Low Light; Short Battery Life
