REVIEW: Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM
Gary Wolstenholme takes a look at Sigma's flagship standard zoom lens for full-frame cameras. Sigma's 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM sports a fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout the zoom range and silent HSM focusing.
Pros:
- Excellent optical performance stopped down to f/4 and below
- Good build quality
- Fast autofocus
Cons:
- Resolution at maximum aperture at focal lengths beyond 35mm
- Barrel Distortion at 24mm

Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 IF EX DG HSM - Nikon Mount Lens
I decided to write this review for two main reasons: 1. Before deciding to spend an important amount of money in a 24-70mm standard zoom lens, I did myself a lot of searching and reading on internet. Unfortunately there are very few reviews about this exact product. 2.

Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 IF EX DG HSM - Nikon
I know that the Quality Assurance at Sigma is questionable but this lens was extremely poor even by their standards. I have previously owned Sigma's 100-300mm f4 and their 150mm f2.8 lenses which were very good and I could not fault them at all, but this 24-70mm HSM was appalling!
Pros:
- Lightweight
- Quick Focus
- Strong Construction
Cons:
- Blurry Focus
- Flare Ghosting

lens is one that has been praised by every photographer who picks it up. The only issues that some people find with the lens is that it is heavy, large, and expensive at around $1,700.

Great lens
For general use: portraits, landscaping, etc. Pros: Sturdy and well constructed, not loose or cheap feel. Cons: big, huge (and expensive) filter.

Works exactly as it should
This lens is definitely the affordable option to the manufacturer's 24-70mm. It produces adequately sharp images in all types of light. I'm impressed with the image quality. The lens itself is huge and heavy.

Could not focus properly with my D7000
The lens felt solid and balanced well with my D7000 but I could not get good results with my D7000. The focus was hit and miss but mainly miss. I contacted Sigma directly after I returned the first lens to Adorama but they weren't much help.

I am NEVER disappointed with Sigma lenses. NEVER!
I just purchased a D700 and needed this range. I had a Sigma for my D300 but that wasn't full frame. Since I really liked the Sigma on my D300 I decided to go with Sigma again. I was not disappointed.
