We've been very impressed by Sigma's recent 'Art' line lenses, such as the ultra-fast 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM and the 35mm F1.4 DG HSM . The 50mm F1.4 DG HSM continues in a similar vein, but if anything it surpasses its illustrious stablemates.

Stunning image quality - super sharp; minimal CA and practically no distortion; Impressive flare resistance; Generally attractive rendition of out-of-focus backgrounds; Fast; silent; and accurate autofocus; Excellent build quality

Large and heavy for a 50mm F1.4 prime; Relatively expensive for its class; No weather sealing

Fantastic Prime Lens

Until recently, if you wanted a fast quality prime you had to buy from your camera manufacturer. Those days are gone with Sigma now creating quality lenses that are matching, and even surpassing, the quality of the big hitters.

Worth Every Penny

Let me start by explaining my score of 4 on image quality. If I had the option I would give it a 4.8 rather than a perfect 5. When the aperture is wide open at f/1.4 images get 'creamy all over'. But with the right light this effect can be absolutely stunning!

Stunning

I bought this lens mainly for portrait photography. I like it better than the canon version. I checked the reviews and photo samples of this lens and I must say, it's true enough that it is a nice lens.

More expensive than Canon, but WORTH it!

If you are looking for a new lens for your Canon DSLR camera, whether it be a full frame (like the C

Big glass that lets in lots of light!

A bit on the heavy side; but really no problem

This is the first Sigma 50mm f/1.4 prime lens for 4/3 DSLRs, a tele photo lens in the focal length of 100mm equivalent to portrait lens in medium distance. A superb lens of optical quality and design, fast focus in silent with HSM.

Fast aperature in f/1.4 with beautiful bokeh; Short lens barrel and well balance of weight by hand-held with camera body; Fast focus speed in silent with HSM

Best priced at buydig!

I was scared after reading reviews that it has some back focus problem... but it was fine! Plus, if there's any problem, you can always return and get a new one.

Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Nice Bokeh; Rugged; Strong Construction

For portraits and bokeh this lens is top

This lens has opened some doors for me with its f1.4 capabilities. I was trying to decide between this and the two more affordable canon 50mm lenses. Ultimately I sold myself on this output quality from this lens.

Low Light; Nice Bokeh; Rugged; Sharpness; Strong Construction

Inconsistent focus

Sigma EX: A capable telephoto macro lens

This telephoto macro lens was the first lens I purchased for my DSLR. It was intended for insect macrophotography, and has not disappointed. At around f8, the lens is very sharp; it is softer wide open, but this is not a problem for macros as the depth of field at f2.8 is too shallow anyway.

Sharp image and 1:1 magnification

Clunky focusing system
