Big problem

If you change lenses frequently (as I do) and happen to put this one back in your bag without first attaching the rear lens cap, the rear glass is very easy to scratch as the glass protrudes beyond the lens mount when lens is set to infinity.

Captures nice images

Fatal design flaw

Sigma AF 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM (Nikon DX) - Review / Test Report

It seems the primary design priority for the Sigma AF 30mm f/1.4 EX DC was to achieve the highest possible center resolution without caring too much about the rest. The border performance of the lens is just so-so at f/1.4 and only good when stopped down.

Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC HSM Art

The Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC HSM Art ($499) is a standard-angle prime lens for APS-C cameras . It's one of the rare SLR lenses in this focal range that's dedicated to that sensor format, and the only one with an f/1.4 aperture.

Compact; Opens to f/1.4; Very sharp when stopped down; 0.3-meter close focus; Sturdy build

Some edge softness at wide apertures; Modest barrel distortion; Lacks optical stabilization; Pricey

Pretty good for the price

If you don't know what you're talking about, don't review products, especially if you claim to have a high level of tech knowledge. Earwigy's criticism that the "depth of field is pretty bad" is a ludicrous statement. Without picking hairs, all f/1.4 lenses will have the same depth of field.

Relatively inexpensive, extremely fast prime; Autofocus is internal, pretty fast, and quiet; A little soft wide open, but sharpens up quickly as you stop down; Nice bokeh

A little soft wide open; If you upgrade to full frame, the lens is usless

Sigma 30mm F/1.4 EX DC HSM Macro Lens for Canon

Perfect lens if it focused properly out of the box. Lens has a little front focus on my Rebel t3i. Sent to Sigma for calibration with camera body still waiting for it to return. Otherwise good quality lens.

I've had this lens for about two weeks. Not a lot of time to develope an opinion but just some initial observations. It's going to be best as a portrait lens, the focus is sharp and accurate when the subject is close (say 2-12 feet).

Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM A Lens Review

Handling and features Performance Verdict Specification This standard lens for APS-C format cameras sports a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture and silent rear focusing with full time manual override. It is available to fit Canon, Nikon and Sigma cameras and costs around £260.

Very good sharpness in the centre; Very well built; f/1.4 aperture; Low falloff and distortion

Sharpness towards edges of the frame could be better; CA at maximum aperture; Focusing issues with review samples
